A Brief OverviewLeads the development implementation and ongoing management of business continuity and resilience strategies within Avera. This role will ensure that the organization can effectively respond to disruptions mitigate risks and continue providing critical healthcare services during unforeseen events. Responsible for proactive risk mitigation and rapid recovery in response to disruptions. Requires close collaboration with senior leaders across business units clinical operations and IT with a focus on safeguarding organizational sustainability and patient care excellence. This is a hybrid role with travel as needed to conduct site assessments support department-level resiliency planning and lead enterprise-wide initiatives.
What you will do
- Develop and Implement Business Resilience Strategies: Design and lead the development of comprehensive business continuity and resilience strategies including operational continuity emergency preparedness and disaster recovery plans. Ensure these strategies align with Avera Healths goals values and regulatory requirements. Regularly report on resiliency metrics risks and mitigation strategies to the CISO CIO and executive leadership.
- Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Conduct risk assessments across all areas of the organization (clinical operational IT etc.) to identify vulnerabilities and potential threats to business resilience. Develop mitigation strategies and action plans to reduce risks and protect critical services.
- Crisis Management and Incident Response: Lead the organizations response to incidents that impact business resilience including cybersecurity breaches natural disasters and other disruptions. Coordinate crisis management teams establish incident response protocols and facilitate timely communication during emergencies.
- Regulatory Compliance and Standards: Ensure business resilience and continuity plans meet all relevant healthcare regulations and standards including HIPAA and local or state health department requirements. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for continuity of care patient safety and disaster preparedness.
- Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with clinical IT operations and executive leadership teams to ensure alignment between resilience strategies and organizational priorities. Communicate resilience objectives and progress to senior leadership and other stakeholders. Serve as a key organizational liaison with external partners including regulatory agencies insurers and vendors on resiliency and risk mitigation efforts.
- Operational Oversight: Lead business impact analyses (BIA) to identify critical functions dependencies and risks driving the prioritization of resiliency investments. Partner with operations supply chain finance clinical IT and other key business functions to ensure continuity of critical operations including patient care logistics and financial processes during disruptions.
- Training and Awareness Programs: Develop and implement training programs for staff on business continuity crisis management and resilience strategies. Ensure that key personnel are prepared to act quickly and efficiently during emergencies.
- Business Continuity Testing and Drills: Design and conduct regular continuity testing and simulation exercises to assess the effectiveness of business continuity plans. Evaluate the response to simulations and implement lessons learned to improve processes.
- Continuous Improvement and Monitoring: Continuously monitor the resilience of the organizations operations identifying opportunities for improvement. Leverage post-incident reviews and business continuity testing to enhance strategies and responses. Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in business continuity disaster recovery and crisis management.
- Resource Management: Identify coordinate and manage resources needed to support business resilience initiatives including technology solutions equipment and staffing requirements. Vendor and Third-Party Management: Ensure that business resilience plans are extended to critical third-party vendors and partners. Work with external providers to assess their business continuity capabilities and ensure they align with organizational needs.
- Responsibilities include interviewing hiring developing training and retaining employees; planning assigning and leading work; appraising performance; rewarding and coaching employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Preferred Education License/Certification or Work Experience:
- Bachelors in Business Administration Healthcare Management Risk Management or a related field.
- Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) - DRI International
- Member of Business Continuity Institute (MBCI) - Business Continuity Institute (BCI)
- Minimum of five years experience in business continuity risk management or disaster recovery and at least three years in a leadership role.
- Experience in healthcare or a highly regulated environment.
- Demonstrated experience in managing crisis situations and implementing continuity plans that ensure minimal disruption to critical services.
- Deep understanding of healthcare operations compliance regulations (HIPPA HITECH) and risk management principles.
- Strong knowledge of business continuity planning frameworks disaster recovery procedures and incident response protocols.
