The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high quality drinking water managing wastewater and stormwater and reducing air noise and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country with nearly 6000 employees. DEPs water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the systems 2000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.
New York City has approximately 140000 catch basins 114000 hydrants 90000 valves 14 gatehouses 3 reservoirs 68 groundwater wells a 100 million gallon underground storage tank and 7000 miles each of both sanitary sewers and water mains. The responsibility of maintaining these vast networks falls under the Department of Environmental Protections Bureau of Water and Sewer Operations (BWSO).
The primary responsibilities of the Bureau of Water and Sewer Operations are the operation maintenance and protection of the Citys drinking water and wastewater collection (sewer) systems; the protection of adjacent waterways; and the engineering and planning in support of the Departments Capital Water and Sewer Capital Program. The Bureau also approves and inspects water and sewer connections performed by licensed plumbers and/or authorized addition the Bureau has overall responsibility for the approval and inspection of all public and private construction projects which could impact on the Citys water or sewer systems.
Working within the Bureau of Water & Sewer Operations (BWSO) all work will be in direct support and direction of the Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioners of Engineering & Planning (AC E&P) the Chief of Staff will be responsible for assisting with coordination of engineering projects and issues as well as tracking and ensuring effective communication on critical projects issues and actions with internal Agency Partners to track and organize priorities within the organization. It will also be the Chief of Staffs responsibility to track Executive level critical projects actions and requests and ensure timely responses.
Essential functions and tasks include but are not limited to the following:
-Provides engineering and planning management support which includes creating reviews and briefs of critical organizational strategies policies projects and actions.
oDocuments are prepared in a concise organized and timely matter
oMaintains a line of communication with Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioners to keep them aware of vital information or any issues/concerns when necessary.
-Attends executive level meetings as required and follows up on action items to ensure completion.
oPrepares agenda items in advance and capture key action items resulting from meetings
oDisseminates information as necessary to various stakeholders.
-Coordinates the activities required between the persons agencies and departments responsible for advancement of projects and engineering reviews.
oCoordinate meetings and visits
oDevelop meeting agendas and attendees.
oTrack and effectively respond to requests for information
-Conduct research as may be required to support strategic planning and tracks executive level special projects actions and requests.
o Response time delays for requests are kept to a minimum.
oProjects are tracked in an orderly and consistent manner using Microsoft office suite
oIdentifies common engineering concepts and projects elements across multiple divisions and brings them together to be grouped tracked and advanced.
-Maintains a management information system to provide data for the planning and control of project development.
oPrepare meeting notes and track associated tasks and follow up.
oData in system is accurate and up to date.

Qualifications :
A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and three years fulltime satisfactory professional experience related to the projects and policies to be
studied in the particular position including eighteen months of experience in a
managerial consultative administrative or supervisory capacity.
