About Us


The Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency (Agency) is the regulatory authority for the 13 compulsory certified trades under the Apprenticeship and Trades Qualification Act. To work in a compulsory certified trade an individual must possess a valid Certificate of Qualification be a registered apprentice or possess a valid temporary work permit. Industry stakeholders rely on the Agency to enforce the provisions of the compulsory certified trades to ensure a level playing field for those who are compliant and to ensure that work is being performed safely and consumers can trust that individuals working in the compulsory trades are trained and certified.

About Our Opportunity


The Enforcement Officer is independently responsible for ensuring compliance with and enforcement of the Apprenticeship and Trades Qualifications Act General Regulations and trade specific regulations within all workplaces in an assigned the Enforcement Officer and member of the Compliance and Enforcement team you follow the applicable policies and procedures and utilize the compliance and enforcement tools this role you will be required to become a Special Constable under the Police Act.

This position reports to the Manager of Compliance and Enforcement.

Primary Accountabilities


The Enforcement Officer duties include:

  • conductingscheduled/unscheduled workplace inspections;
  • conductinginvestigations of complaints and non-compliance;
  • preparingand submittingwritten reports to the Supervisor regarding compliance activity;
  • providingcompliance promotion sessions in workplaces schools and the community;
  • providinginformation and advice to employers contractors employees unions and the general public; and
  • ensuringcompliance by issuing orders Summary Offense Tickets Administrative Penalties and initiating prosecution action when necessary.

Qualifications and Experience


Grade 12 plus completion of a related trade or technical training in an area of specialty plus six years of related experience in business compliance monitoring inspection investigation interpreting regulations or other regulatory roles or an acceptable equivalent combination of training and/or experience.

As the successful candidate you must be self-directed work independently and as a member of a team and value a diverse and inclusive workplace. The ability to exercise professional discretion manage competing interests and maintain effective stakeholder relationships are critical. As the successful candidate you must be able to understand interpret legislation and explain in plain language terms to clients. You demonstrate proficiency in various computer programs (i.e. Microsoft Office Outlook) as well as possessing excellent verbal and written communication skills.

As defined under the Police Act you must be eligible for Special Constable status. A Special Constable may issue Summary Offense Tickets for alleged non-compliance to a regulation or piece of legislation allowing for the collection of evidence for court proceedings and the prosecution of offenders.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination standardized tests oral presentations interview(s) and reference checks.

Salary Range: $2370.01- $2791.38Bi-Weekly
