Holyoke Public Schools is seeking a passionate and skilled SLIFE/ESL Paraeducator to support multilingual learners who have experienced limited or interrupted formal education (SLIFE). This position plays a key role in ensuring that English Learners receive individualized academic and language support that fosters both language development and access to grade-level content.
The SLIFE/ESL Paraeducator will work collaboratively with ESL and content teachers to deliver targeted instruction scaffold learning and support social-emotional and acculturation needs of students who are developing literacy in English and their home language.
Key Responsibilities
Provide small-group and individualized support to SLIFE and newcomer English Learners in inclusive and ESL classroom settings.
Assist students in building foundational literacy numeracy and language skills through guided practice and structured intervention in English or home language.
Support students academic engagement and self-regulation through culturally responsive and trauma-informed practices.
Reinforce lessons presented by teachers by reviewing material with students one-on-one or in small groups.
Assist in the administration of language and literacy assessments and track student progress.
Maintain accurate records and contribute to student progress documentation (e.g. EL Success Plans progress monitoring forms).
Qualifications
Required:
Workkeys Associates degree or 60 college credits
Demonstrated proficiency in English and Spanishor Haitian Creole(oral and written).
Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse students.
Commitment to fostering inclusive asset-based learning environments.
