Job Summary

Holyoke Public Schools is seeking a passionate and skilled SLIFE/ESL Paraeducator to support multilingual learners who have experienced limited or interrupted formal education (SLIFE). This position plays a key role in ensuring that English Learners receive individualized academic and language support that fosters both language development and access to grade-level content.

The SLIFE/ESL Paraeducator will work collaboratively with ESL and content teachers to deliver targeted instruction scaffold learning and support social-emotional and acculturation needs of students who are developing literacy in English and their home language.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide small-group and individualized support to SLIFE and newcomer English Learners in inclusive and ESL classroom settings.

  • Assist students in building foundational literacy numeracy and language skills through guided practice and structured intervention in English or home language.

  • Support students academic engagement and self-regulation through culturally responsive and trauma-informed practices.

  • Reinforce lessons presented by teachers by reviewing material with students one-on-one or in small groups.

  • Assist in the administration of language and literacy assessments and track student progress.

  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to student progress documentation (e.g. EL Success Plans progress monitoring forms).

Qualifications

Required:

  • Workkeys Associates degree or 60 college credits

  • Demonstrated proficiency in English and Spanishor Haitian Creole(oral and written).

  • Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse students.

  • Commitment to fostering inclusive asset-based learning environments.
