Job Summary

Computer Science Teacher

Job Description:
The STEAM Department seeks a collaborative energetic and positive teacher to fill a 3-month parental leave. The ideal candidate is a qualified teacher with the following characteristics:

Experience teaching AP Computer Science Principles;
Experience with teaching Java and Python;
Dedicated to the growth and development of each student;
Experience with a wide range of instructional strategies that are tailored to meet the needs and strengths of each student;
Ability to create an inclusive classroom environment that promotes positive relationships with students;
Willingness and desire to develop and present engaging student-centered lessons and assessments in a variety of computer science courses with a focus especially on general computational thinking concepts rather than a particular programming language;
Demonstrated ability to incorporate various modes of technology into lesson plans and classroom activities;
Proactive in maintaining open communication regarding students with parents counselors deans learning specialists and other faculty and staff;
Values and seeks to understand the cultural and social identities of each student in their class;
Ability to integrate culturally responsive practices into daily teaching.

Qualifications:

BA/BS Degree

Illinois PEL or another state PEL that can be transferred to IL

MA/MS or MEd preferred

Experience with Java and Python

Experience with AP Computer Science A preferred
