Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

TeHerenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting two Kaiārahi Eke Panuku - Student Success Advisers to join the Tītoko - Centre for Student Success team on a permanent full-time basis.

This position is based within Orauariki - Wellington School of Business and Government and Te Kauhanganui Tātai Ture - Faculty of Law at the Pipitea Campus. Kaiārahi Eke Panuku - Student Success Advisersprovide holistic student advice and high-quality responsive service to support student academic success and enhance the student experiencewithin the framework of the Universitys academic policies regulations and operating procedures.

Key responsibilities:

  • Offer personalized holistic support to students helping them identify and choose the best pathways for their educational and career goals. This involves addressing their unique needs highlighting their strengths and fostering growth empowerment and learning.

  • Use equity diversity and inclusion practices to recognise barriers to success collaborating with students to find solutions leverage resources and encourage them to actively engage in their learning journey.

  • Engage with students consistently throughout the trimester especially at key momentum points while using engagement dashboards to monitor academic progress.

  • Connect students with the right service and processes across the University to efficiently resolve enquiries and respond to students needs.

  • Develop and strengthen relationships with other student services and academic staff especially Associate Deans and Programme Directors to provide an integrated student support model.

  • Develop a degree plan and complete an annual audit to provide detailed overview of requirements and specific timeframe for completion including audits for outbound global exchanges students and final audits for graduation.

  • Accurate entry of data into Banner the Student Information Management System and maintain effective records of student engagement in the Student Relationship Management system (Kurawai).

You will be a motivated customer-focused individual who can take the initiative provide excellent administration and policy compliance.

You will need to be an effective communicator with exemplary interpersonal skillsand natural relationship builder who relishes working autonomously as well as contributing positively to a high performing team. You will need effective time management and forward planning to balance meeting deadlines and maintain a high standard of service to both students and staff. The ability to remain calm under pressure and thrive working with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Key requirements:

  • Tertiary degree or comparable professional experiencein a similar role.

  • Demonstrated client-centred approach and service delivery skills.

  • Cultural competency the ability to work effectively and understand the different needs across a diverse range of people.

  • Proven ability to proactively navigate and manage issues to a successful resolution.

  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills and attention to detail.

  • Sound understanding of academic statutes and student academic processes.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team and manage a busy workload.

  • An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application in an educational context.
