PRIMARY PURPOSE:
To provide leadership and coordination in the implementation and evaluation of the Regional Day School Program for the Deaf; to support a student-learning framework that focuses on rigorous instruction emotional intelligence and competitive job skills; to promote a positive working relationship among and between staff and the schools/districts by establishing a climate conducive to open communication and productive work. Provide training and instructional leadership to ensure quality programming within the deaf education and general education classrooms where deaf and hard-of-hearing students are being served. Monitor compliance with federal and state legislation with regard to Special Education programming.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Masters Degree required
Deaf & Hard of Hearing Certificate required
Certified T-TESS Appraiser required
Texas Mid-Management Supervisors Certificate in Special Education or Principals Certificate preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Communicate effectively (verbal and written); utilize effective interpersonal skills; interpret data federal and state laws and policies; organize multiple and complex districtwide projects; provide staff development in deaf education; demonstrate a working knowledge of instructional programs in deaf education; communicate with students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH)
Experience:
Three (3) years of experience as a classroom teacher with students who are DHH/special education preferred

Daily Rate pay range:
Minimum: $332.86
Maximum: $ 464.40
Note:Starting pay for a new hire in a pay range plan will be determined individually based on each persons job-related experience and salaries paid to peer employees in the same position with similar experience.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Keep informed about current legislation educational developments literature and research in deaf education by participating in state and national professional organizations; attend appropriate conferences and staff development sessions; and disseminate professional information and materials to the schools. Inform staff regarding new policies and procedures share training materials problem-solve and discuss instructional issues and special activities requiring additional support such as transportation professional development support or issues requiring input from administrators.
- Conduct Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) certified Teachers and evaluations for Certified Interpreters/RDSPD Instructional Assistants incorporating classroom/on-site observation data and follow-up discussions aimed at improving instructional strategies to facilitate individual student achievement.
- Assist in the development coordination and implementation of curriculum for the Regional Day School Program for the Deaf. Provide ongoing classroom visitation for all RDSPD campuses to gather information on students instructional needs for instructional refinement and student success.
- Meet regularly with instructional staff to promote the improvement of student achievement to assist teachers in designing learning experiences for students; to encourage the development and piloting of innovative instructional programs; facilitate the planning and application of emerging technologies in the classroom.
- Assist in planning and implementing staff development activities for professionals interpreters and paraprofessional personnel.
- Recommend appropriate instructional supplies materials equipment and textbooks to achieve instructional objectives.
- Collaborate and consult with the RDSPD Director regarding instructional methods quality of service delivery new referrals reevaluations training staff assignments recruiting/hiring and budgeting responsibilities related to staffing training and provision of materials/equipment needed in the program and other special issues/concerns.
- Serve as a representative of the Local Education Agency (LEA) at Admission Review and Dismissal Meetings (ARD) to provide or supervise the provision of specially designed instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities. Monitor the implementation progress and evaluation of IEPs for students receiving special education services.
- Travel to and from RDSPD cluster site campuses.
- Administer the Regional Day School Program for the Deaf in the Directors absence.
- Assist in the interpretation of statewide testing and its implication for the program and District.
- Foster collaborative educational efforts among staff by supporting the districts philosophy and mission and its commitment to site-based decision-making.
- Keep the Director for the Regional Day School Program for the Deaf informed regarding the status of all projects or initiatives undertaken and of directives or requests received internally or externally.
- Establish and maintain open lines of communication with parents students teachers public and private agencies and school districts participating in the RDSPD; visit schools and consult with personnel to improve services.
- Follow McAllen ISD customer service standards.
- Perform other duties assigned by immediate supervisor (primary evaluator).
