Job Summary

Public Safety Supervisor

SUMMARYResponsible for the effective functioning of the Hotel Public Safety Department on assigned shift. Will supervise the Public Safety Officers coordinate with the Hotel Public Safety Manager on all assigned work safety and security concerns. Will assist all Hotel departments by being the source of local as well as property information to guests and team members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains adequate staffing levels by interviewing selecting training scheduling evaluating promoting and disciplining Hotel Safety Officers as needed.
  • Ensures Hotel Public Safety Officers patrol the property on assigned shift identifying potential security and/or safety hazards and reporting same to the appropriate individual to ensure the safety and protection of customers and property and Casino/Hotel team members and the entire Hotel facility.
  • In the absence of the Hotel Public Safety Manager will act as a back-up on assigned shift and assume their duties when necessary.
  • Responsible for communicating and updating the Hotel and Food & Beverage departments of any potential security or safety concerns.
  • Assists with any emergency evacuations and complete daily monthly and annual fire and safety inspections with the proper individuals.
  • Escorts and is on standby with any vendors on Hotel property needing access to secured areas throughout the Hotel and Food & Beverage areas.
  • Assists with any software and key boxes utilized by the public safety department and performs as a back up for the Public Safety Manager.
  • Prepares and requests reports on incidents involving customers guests employees and/or the facility as needed. Comply with all property and department policies practices and procedures. Contribute to a safe work environment through compliance with established safety guidelines identifying potential safety hazards and reporting same to the appropriate person for proper resolution. Maintain a professional department company and community reputation.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of Shoshone-Bannock Casino Hotel facilities as well as special events on property in order to give proper direction to customers and employees of special events.
  • Interacts with guests customers and employees in a positive and professional manner.
  • Ensures and maintains the greatest level of customer service and satisfaction throughout the property.
  • Facilitates the flow of information by attending regularly scheduled departmental meetings.
  • Follows company safety and security policies and procedures. Reports accidents injuries and unsafe conditions.
  • Must have a working knowledge of the Minimum Internal Control Standards Tribal Internal Controls and Title 31.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Must comply complete and maintain all assigned online training programs before due dates.
  • MUST MAINTAIN STRICT CONFIDENTIALITY OF ALL INFORMATION PROCESSED THROUGH THE DEPARTMENT INCLUDING RECORDS REPORTS DOCUMENTS CONVERSATIONS ETC. A breach of confidentiality will be subject to appropriate disciplinary action up to and including termination from employment.
  • Responsible for practicing safe work habits in the performance of the job.
  • Duties and responsibilities will include other activities and areas as needed to carry out position functions.

  • This position must have or an ability to acquire within one year an in-depth knowledge and thorough understanding of Shoshone-Bannock Casino Hotel Policies and Procedures regulations and technical rules relevant to their responsibilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedural manuals.
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus.
  • Must be able to work with or assist local law enforcement (State County) and Casino Security.
  • Held accountable to a high degree for the accuracy and thoroughness of the departmental records and reports.
  • Has the ability to lead by setting a positive example to all team members.
  • Required to work shift work weekends during special events holidays and as business demands.
  • Candidate must be a self-starter.
  • Strong attention to detail the ability to multitask and possess strong communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent problem-resolution skills required
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule in order to accomplish all major responsibilities and tasks including evenings weekends and holidays.
  • Excellent attendance standards.
  • Ability to maintain physical stamina and proper mental attitude while working pressure.
  • Excellent verbal written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Supervisor certified training preferred.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

(G11/ S1-3 DOE)

  • High School Diploma or GED required; with one (1) year Security experience or Law Enforcement; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

(G12/ S1-3 DOE)

  • Law Enforcement Certificate required or Advanced Security or Safety Certificate required; or twenty (20) satisfactory college hours or similar field; or three (3) years Security experience or Law Enforcement and three (3) years supervisory experience required; or an equivalent combination of education training or experience.

(G13/ S1-3 DOE)

  • Associates Degree in Criminal Justice or sixty (60) satisfactory college hours with Criminal Justice courses or similar field; or four (4) years of Law Enforcement and four (4) years of supervisory experience required; or an equivalent combination of education experience and training.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESDirectly supervises Hotel Public Safety Officers under their supervision during shift. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing hiring and training employees; planning assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement volume and distance.

REASONING ABILITYAbility to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables. Must be able to communicate effectively in person while on the phone while using intercom/microphone and in writing.

CERTIFICATES LICENSE AND REGISTRATIONS

  • Must be able to submit supporting documents of education and training (High School Diploma GED Degree and Certificates). if applicable.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a gaming license in good standing according to the licensing rules and regulations.
  • Must be able to pass a complete background investigation.
  • Must be able to pass a drug/alcohol screening.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain in good standing a Drivers License and qualify for Fleet Management coverage on company vehicles.

This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers phones photocopiers filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of the position the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes tobacco smoke or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. When on the casino floor the noise level increases too loud. This position is held to a high degree of confidentiality and will adhere to P.L. 93-579522 (a) and the Policy and Procedures of the Shoshone-Bannock Casino Hotel.
