Job Summary

High School Paraprofessional (ELD Focus)

Description:

The High School Paraprofessional (ELD focus) will provide assistance with day-to-day classroom routines and procedures under the guidance of a licensed teacher. This position works in large and small group settings to support student mastery in all content areas and provides students with a positive learning environment.

Reporting Relationships:

Reports to: High School Principal High School Assistant Principal

Direct Reports: This is a non-supervisory position.

Compensation:

This is a full-time 10-month position. The hourly rate is $17.75 - $23.94 per hour (without a Bachelors degree) or $18.62 - $25.14 per hour (with a Bachelors degree) depending on experience. Additional benefits are outlined in more detail at the bottom of the job description.

Essential Functions:

Collaboration & Classroom Support:

  • Communicate and foster positive relationships with students parents and families.
  • Contribute to our Professional Learning Community (PLC).
  • Participate in activities intervention discussions and team meetings to ensure student success and to promote innovation.
  • Collaborate with teachers in designing curriculum.
  • Work with teachers in establishing annual student achievement targets.
  • Support student growth and achievement for the development of the whole child academically socially emotionally and physically.
  • Provide assistance to the teacher in the instruction of students.
  • Reinforce learning strategies and skills as modeled by the teacher.
  • Follow and reinforce classroom management and student behavior expectations set by classroom teacher.
  • Assist with supervising students in the classroom hallways lunchroom and on the playground or as requested.
  • Supervise before- and after-school duty assignments.
  • Conduct small group and individual instruction with the guidance and support of classroom teacher.
  • Follow lesson plan developed by classroom teacher.

Additionally:

  • Regular and timely attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Possess a high school diploma or its equivalent (e.g. GED).
  • Demonstrate subject matter competency by (1) earning an Associates degree or higher or (2) completing at least two years (48 credit hours) of study at an institution of higher education or (3) passing the State of Colorado WorkKeys teaching assistant exam and providing the school with test results.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred; Ability to read and write in both languages

Working Conditions:

Exposure/Noise Level:Occasional exposure to airborne particles fumes and outdoor weather conditions. Normal school environment with moderate to high noise level.

Mental Functions:Analyze collaboration communicate compare compilation of data compute coordinate copy direct evaluate instruct interpersonal skills present report synthesize.

Physical Activities:Office environment including computer interface. Bend reach sit stand stoop talk walk and heavy person-to-person interaction with students parents peers and community members.

Weight and Force Demands:Moderate physical activity (lifting pulling and pushing up to 25 pounds).

Other:May be required to work outside of normal working hours and travel for work related functions.
