Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) is seeking detail-oriented customer-focused and experienced legal professionals for the Legal Secretary position for our Office of General Counsel.
The Legal Secretary will support the Labor Relations team by performing a variety of difficult and complex legal secretarial duties involving research correspondence and scheduling appointments.
The Well Qualified Candidate Will Possess the Following
Knowledge:
Legal vocabulary terminology and formats
Legal procedures and practices involved in composing processing and filing a variety of legal documents and reports
Standard legal references and their content
Records and file organization and use
Fundamentals of proper English grammar punctuation spelling and vocabulary
Transcribe from automated dictation devices
Office and record-keeping practices
Standard office machines
Office software applications such as word processing spreadsheets and artificial intelligence tools
Principles of implementing diversity in the workplace
Competencies:
Legal & Regulatory Navigation Understanding interpreting and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations
Professional & Technical Expertise Applying technical subject matter to the job
Using Technology Working with electronic hardware and software applications
Attention to Detail Focusing on the details of work content work steps and final work products
Handling Stress - Maintaining emotional stability and self-control under pressure challenge or adversity
Self-Management Showing personal organization self-discipline and dependability
Informing Proactively obtaining and sharing information
Customer Focus Attending to the needs and expectation of customers
Professional Impact Presenting self as a positive representative of the organization
Cultural Proficiency Modeling communications and interactions that respect and include all individuals and their languages abilities religions and cultures
Required Education and ExperienceEducation:Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Experience:Two years of legal secretarial experience.
Equivalency Provision:An Associate of Arts degree in legal secretarial or paralegal/legal assistant studies or a certificate in Legal Secretarial Science or its equivalent from an institution of higher learning accredited by regional accreditation associations as recognized by the Council of Higher Education may be substituted for one year of the legal secretarial experience.
Additional Requirements:A valid California drivers license and the availability of private transportation or the ability to provide transportation between job sites may be required.
Selection ProcessCandidates who meet the minimum requirements above will be invited to participate in an examination that may consist of Performance Exam and Structured Interview.
