Position Summary
Why Its a Great Opportunity:
As a customer-focused accounting professional this new fiscal position will help provide segregation of duties improve internal controls and reduce risk for the County. You will have a variety of functions from balancing multiple deposits cost allocation billings procurement metrics cost analysis and fiscal recaps. You will play an integral role in balancing large volumes of transactions and complex accounts across the Licensing and Recording Units. Your direct customers are mostly internal but you could deal directly with customers on occasion.

We also provide administrative direction and support for the Pierce County Opioid Abatement Council. We are a team that promotes trust through positivity change innovation and kindness.
- Recording. The Recording Division receives indexes and records public documents such as deeds maps mortgage materials easements powers of attorney liens and military discharge papers. We process anywhere from 100000 to 200000 public documents each year depending on market conditions. We collect excise tax payments on the sale of real property.
- Licensing. The Licensing Division provides auto and boat title services such as tab renewals trip permits license plate replacement and more. Want to get married in Pierce County Thats us. Need a pet license in unincorporated Pierce County Thats us too. We manage licensing for certain businesses in unincorporated Pierce County and we staff a full-time full-service passport office.

How to be Successful in the Role:
We are looking for someone who is accurate detail oriented eager to learn ability to multitask and has excellent communication skills. Someone who knows when to follow procedures and when to ask questions when things just dont look right. You will work with staff when errors are made and coach for improved performance. As someone who loves to research can meet or exceed timelines and who understands the importance of reliability you will most certainly be successful.
Your Future in this Role:
This position has the unique opportunity to work across units which provides the knowledge needed for the Accounting Assistant 4 or Recording Lead addition to written Policies Procedures and Tasks for all duties in the Auditors Office co-workers fiscal staff compliance officers lead supervisor and manager are all available to provide assistance. Additionally Pierce County offers professional development through a custom Leadership Certification program robust online learning and other training opportunities.
Core Daily Responsibilities:
- Maintain control and oversee the maintenance of general or subsidiary ledgers balancing operations pre-auditing functions and various other accounting and clerical function; maintenance of activities such as receivables payables billings payroll purchasing and related functions; review laws and procedures relevant to grant applications and operations; and perform site monitoring of subcontractor fiscal reports.
- Perform and maintain a variety of financial transactions and records associated with the receipts and disbursement of funds.
- Maintain control and supervise the preparation of financial reports; prepare financial analysis of expenditures operations and related areas; conduct close-out procedures at termination of grants.
- May perform complex and technical duties in assisting customers by telephone and in person concerning billings collections delinquent accounts procedures and regulations.

Qualifications
- Any combination of experience/education which would clearly indicate the ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Three years of progressively responsible bookkeeping accounting auditing or closely related work experience; or equivalent course work in bookkeeping accounting or closely related subjects relevant to the requirements of the position for a maximum of one year of the experience requirement.

Previous customer service experience desirable.
