Job Description Summary:
Position Summary and Purpose
The Anatomic Pathology -Technical Lead will use their thorough knowledge of Laboratory Science to assist the Laboratory Supervisor and Laboratory Manager in maintaining laboratory standards in accordance with accrediting bodies including but not limited to CAP CDC CLIA FACHT FDA and Joint Commission. Using their knowledge and proficiency in the skills and practices of the section they will be responsible for technical review of standard operating procedures validation of new procedures and review and coordination of quality control.

Essential Functions:
- Performs direct observation and ensures competency for all Laboratory Assistant staff.
- Creates schedule for weekly tasks to ensure all duties are completed appropriately at both the Jewish Hospital and University of Louisville Hospital (ULH) sites.
- Recommends and implements improvements necessary to achieve operational goals and to improve patient outcomes.
- Monitors staffing needs.
- Monitors quality control and proficiency testing for department.
- Ensures that accreditation standards are met for department in accordance with CAP Joint Commission CLIA AABB FDA etc.
- Demonstrates comprehension of all procedures within the department as defined in Procedure Manuals. Reviews Manuals biannually and assists with procedure revisions when necessary.
- Submits feedback to the Laboratory Supervisor or Laboratory Manager for technical evaluation of section employees (includes Initial competency and skills assessment/validation).
- Attends required department or hospital huddles and meetings.
- Maintains staffing for call-ins or other unusual circumstances.
- Maintains an adequate reagent and supply inventory in the department.
- Evaluates new technologies for the section in conjunction with the Medical/Section Director of the department.
- Serves in a problem-solving role for the department.
- Assists in the orientation of new department employees as demonstrated by completed orientation checklist in the employees personnel file.
- Meets regularly with Laboratory Supervisor/Manager Medical/Section Director and participates in the evaluation of capital purchases operational and technical issues.

- Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
(Education Experience Licensure and Certification)
Education:
- Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited college or university in medical laboratory science medical technology clinical laboratory science or in a related science (example laboratory sciences such as chemistry biochemistry biology microbiology hematology clinical microscopy cytogenetics blood bank molecular biology cytotechnology or immunology. (required)
Experience:
- Minimum one (1) year of lab experience in a hospital laboratory setting
Certification:
- Certification as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist by one of the following accrediting agencies is preferred.
- Medical Technologist (MT) certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
- Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
- Medical Technologist (MT) certified by the American Medical Technologists (AMT)
- Medical Laboratory Scientist certified by the American Medical Technologists (AMT)
- Medical Technologist (MT) certified by the Department of Health Education & Welfare/US Department of Health & Human Services (HEW/HHS)
- Technologist certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) in one of the following:
Cytotechnologist Pathologists Assistant Histotechnician/Histotechnologist Molecular Biologist
- Technologist certified by the American Board of Bioanalysis (ABB) in one of the following areas:
Medical Technologist Andrology Laboratory Scientist Embryology Laboratory Scientist or Molecular Diagnostics Technologist
- Beginning in January 2004 newly certified individuals must participate in The American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB) Board of Registry (BOR) Certification Maintenance Program (required)
