Senior Software Engineer - Linux Ublk
About the Role
At PlayStation our Gaming Developer & Future Technology (GDFT) Group is leading the cloud gaming revolution by putting console-quality video games on any device from TVs to consoles to mobile devices and beyond! Would you like to use your skills time and passion on meaningful projects that are building the future We are seeking a highly skilled Linux Software Developer to join our engineering team. This role will focus on developing and optimizing low-level I/O subsystems with an emphasis on Linux UBLK (Userspace Block Driver Framework) and iouring. You will collaborate with kernel and systems engineers to design and implement efficient scalable and high-performance solutions for modern storage and I/O workloads.
Key Responsibilities
Design implement and maintain features in the Linux UBLK framework.
Develop and optimize I/O paths using iouring for low-latency high-throughput workloads.
Analyze debug and resolve performance bottlenecks in Linux I/O subsystems.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams on storage networking and virtualization projects.
Write clean maintainable and well-documented code with unit and integration tests.
Stay current with developments in the Linux kernel storage technologies and emerging programming paradigms.
Required Qualifications
BS in Computer Science / Software Engineering or 5 years of relevant work experience
Strong expertise in Linux UBLK development and related kernel/user-space interactions.
Solid experience with iouring and modern Linux I/O frameworks.
In-depth knowledge of the Linux I/O data path including block layer and file systems.
Proficiency in C for systems programming.
Strong debugging and performance tuning skills (perf ftrace bpf etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with DMA (Direct Memory Access) mechanisms and optimizations.
Experience with Rust for systems programming or interest in adopting Rust for safe low-level development.
Knowledge of NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express) protocols and storage technologies.
Contributions to Linux kernel or other open-source projects.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge skills experience and location.
