The Public Guardian and Trustee (PGT) is here to help citizens who may be incapable are under the age of 19 or who are deceased.

The Public Guardian and Trustee (PGT) has the mandate to:

  • Protect the legal and financial interests ofchildrenunder the age of 19 years
  • Protect the legal financial personal and health care interests ofadultswho need help with decision-making

Administerestatesof deceased persons and missing persons.

The PGT is a corporation sole which is a legal structure with one person responsible for overall service delivery instead of a board of directors. That person is called the Public Guardian and Trustee. The PGT is independent of government when making decisions on behalf of clients. The Team
The Services to Adults Division at the Public Guardian and Trustee (PGT) is a collaborative and client-focused team dedicated to supporting vulnerable adults who need help with personal financial or legal decision-making. Team members work closely together and with community partners to ensure decisions are made with integrity compassion and the highest ethical standards.

The Role
This role is responsible for conducting legal research and analysis to support PGT lawyers in protecting the rights and interests of vulnerable adults often in complex sensitive and high-profile cases. The position works closely with legal counsel clients and external partners to ensure decisions are informed fair and grounded in law and policy. With a strong focus on equity diversity and inclusion the role contributes to creating respectful and culturally safe legal processes that put clients well-being at the centre of decision-making.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Secondary school graduation.
  • Completion of a recognized Paralegal Certificate; OR
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working as a paralegal.
  • Experience working in a legal office environment.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with experience working in a civil legal setting in elder law estate planning and administration and estate litigation.

This is a temporary opportunity until 12/15/2026. This position may be extended or become permanent.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
A Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) and Enhanced Security Screening will be required.
