Position Summary:



Wasauksing First Nation is accepting applications for a First Nation Child and Family Services Prevention Services Worker. Under the direction of the Supervisor of Social Programming and Wellness the First Nation Child and Family Services Prevention Services Worker provides prevention services and family supports to First Nation families within Wasauksing First Nation and the local surrounding area. This person is required to provide prevention services support to children youth and families who are identified as being at risk. The Prevention Services Worker will provide community-based prevention services that support Wasauksing children and youth who may be at risk of child welfare intervention and/or are involved with child welfare to live safely within their families of origin. The Prevention Services Worker is a member of the Circle of Care supporting children youth and families and is guided by a service model where everyone works together to support the children of Wasauksing First Nation.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Team supervision guidance and case management of the First Nation Representative Services Program
  • Connects Wasauksing families to community-based and culturally appropriate prevention programming resources and services
  • Organizes and deliver prevention programs or partner with local service providers for events and programs (e.g. parenting education social events recreational activities Elder and youth gatherings land-based activities etc.)
  • Provides a respectful safe and culturally relevant environment which respects each child youth and adult as an individual
  • Provides opportunities for the enhancement and development of a positive cultural identity for children youth families and communities served
  • Fosters and maintains positive and collaborative relationships by engaging our families and extended families in all aspects of service delivery
  • Reinforces positive and respectful interaction among peers with their families their communities and themselves as it relates to the Prevention Services program
  • Develops appropriate assistance programs routinely monitors client progress and keeps families informed of any developments regarding interventions
  • Conducts a needs assessment of clients before establishing the best form of intervention required
  • Maintains case notes and documents in the case management system
  • Participates in case conferences to minimize duplication and ensure coordination of services
  • Ensures the effective coordination and integration of culturally appropriate services to address child welfare involvement concerns the needs of the children youth family and alternative caregivers
  • Maintains working files that are accurate concise and up-to-date
  • Actively participates in Rapid Response Mediation and/or Indigenous Alternative Dispute Resolution meetings
  • Develops and facilitates individual and/or group presentations to address and promote awareness and education
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of interventions and/or treatment and Care Plans as identified in the Family Service Plan
  • Oversees the provision of services to children youth families and alternative care families ensuring that the physical familial emotional cultural spiritual educational and social needs are met.


Education & Experience:

  • Post-Secondary Diploma (College) in Child and Youth Worker Social Services Worker or Human Services
  • Minimum two (2) years of work experience working with First Nation children youth and families


Other Requirements:

  • Valid Drivers License and reliable personal vehicle
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and/or weekends
  • Available for on-call after hours and during weekends as required
  • Ability to travel is required and to travel with minimal notice
  • This position requires the individual to work with various families youth and children. To protect children youth and vulnerable persons Wasauksing First Nation requires the individual to provide a vulnerable sector check
