Summary

We are currently hiring a temporary part-time Supervisor Surgical Services to provide leadership support across Surgical Day Care PACU and the Surgical High Acuity Unit during an exciting period of growth and transition to the new St. Pauls Hospital.

This position is ideal for a leader who thrives on change collaboration and innovation. Youll help shape workflows support staff through growth and transition and build strong sustainable care models as services expand at the new St. Pauls Hospital.

Reporting to the Patient Care Manager the Supervisor Surgical Services is responsible for:

  • Providing leadership and oversight of patient care delivery across designated Surgical Services areas including the operating rooms surgical day care post-anaesthesia care and OR procedure rooms.
  • Supporting day-to-day staff leadership performance and development to ensure safe high-quality and efficient patient care.
  • Developing implementing and evaluating patient care standards policies procedures and performance measures including budget oversight.
  • Collaborating with the Patient Care Manager nursing leaders interdisciplinary teams and other departments to ensure coordinated and seamless service delivery.

Please note that this is a temporary position with an end date of March 31 2027.

What You Bring

Education

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse in good standing with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) and has the necessary qualifications required of staff nurse in the clinical area.
  • Five (5) years recent related experience in clinical specialty including two (2) years recent experience in supervisory capacity or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of nursing practice standards regulations and evidence-based approaches including the ability to develop implement and role model safe high-quality care.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience in delegation supervision evaluation mentoring coaching and supporting team development.
  • Excellent interpersonal written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams and promote positive relationships.
  • Proven critical thinking problem-solving and decision-making abilities including the capacity to adapt to unexpected events and prioritize objectives effectively.
  • Fiscal planning administrative and organizational skills including competency in operating relevant equipment and technology.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the role including CPR and other clinical procedures appropriate to the area of service.

Your Day to Day:

  • Provides overall leadership and supervision of patient care delivery across designated units including staff coordination scheduling performance monitoring and ensuring safe efficient high-quality care.
  • Leads staff development and education by identifying learning needs supporting orientation mentoring and implementing performance improvement plans in collaboration with Clinical Nurse Leaders and Nurse Educators.
  • Manages employee relations recruitment staffing budgets and resource allocation ensuring alignment with organizational goals and compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Develops implements and evaluates patient care standards policies and quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient safety.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and other departments to address operational challenges resolve service issues and ensure seamless coordinated patient care.
  • Facilitates research innovation and evidence-based practice by supporting staff engagement in clinical projects and applying findings to improve patient care and workflows.
  • Represents the unit on internal and external committees supports ongoing operational planning and performs other duties as assigned to maintain optimal functioning of the designated areas
