Job Duties

Central State Hospital (CSH) is a 277 bed Joint Commission accredited psychiatric inpatient facility located in Petersburg Virginia. CSH has proudly been serving citizens of the Commonwealth since 1870 when we opened our doors as the first psychiatric hospital in the country dedicated to the treatment of African Americans. A new and modern CSH is currently under construction on the same property with a scheduled completion date of 2027.

CSH maintains the only maximum-security treatment facility in the state (111 beds). We also have 166 beds available for individuals in the community who need inpatient care as well as individuals in the criminal justice system. We believe that treatment should be holistic and focused on the persons individual needs recognizing that recovery is not linear or the same for every person. Treatment modalities may include medication evidence-based group and individual therapy peer support psychosocial rehabilitation vocational training preparation for court and treatment for substance use.

Central State Hospital is recruiting for a Food Operations Manager Assistant to join our dynamic Food Services team! This role is responsible for leading and supporting staff in the areas of performance management food production sanitation and collaboration. The Food Operations Manager Assistant ensures that staff receive clear communication ongoing coaching and competency evaluations while upholding departmental goals and compliance with performance and attendance standards. The position oversees daily food production ensuring adherence to HACCP and regulatory guidelines and maintaining high standards of quality safety and service. Responsibilities include supervising meal preparation reviewing menus and recipes monitoring food handling and storage and ensuring sanitation standards are consistently met through inspections training and enforcement of safety procedures. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership communication and organizational skills foster a culture of accountability and teamwork and actively promote a positive and safe work environment aligned with CSHs mission and values.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required to Successfully Perform the Job:

- Comprehensive knowledge of the tray line operation and procedures.
- Ability to supervise evaluate teach train direct motivates instruct and counsel food service staff.
- Basic knowledge of a computer to communicate enter update and retrieve information.
- Ability to keep records to provide information and document compliance with various policies procedures laws and regulations.
- Ability to direct the work of employees to provide a quality service.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Food Safety.
- Ability to stand for extended periods lift moderate (10-40 lbs.) loads bend stoop and carry objects.
- Capacity to work in high heat high humidity environment.
- Aptitude to work as a contributing team member.
- Ability to work in a secure and locked environment with individuals who are experiencing acute symptoms of mental illness and/or additional forensic/legal involvement.

Minimum Qualifications

- Food Service Management Experience
