We are seeking Kirghiz (also known as Kyrgyz) Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Kirghiz a Turkic language spoken in Kyrgyzstan and across Central Asia is a rare but high-priority language often required in asylum refugee and immigration cases.
Responsibilities
- Provide real-time Kirghiz (Kyrgyz) English telephonic interpretation for USCIS officers applicants and stakeholders.
- Interpret accurately impartially and professionally in immigration and asylum contexts.
- Maintain confidentiality in line with USCIS/DHS interpreter ethics and standards.
- Handle both scheduled assignments and urgent/surge interpretation requests.
- Participate in training compliance refreshers and quality assurance reviews.
- Native or near-native fluency in Kirghiz (Kyrgyz) and English.
- 2 years of professional interpreting experience (immigration legal asylum NGO or government preferred).
- Knowledge of interpreter ethics confidentiality and cultural awareness.
- Strong communication skills; ability to remain accurate under pressure.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 federal clearance.
- Competitive pay: $2835/hour (rare-language premium).
