Surgery Tech, Non-Certified (PRN)

The Surgical Technician acts as a primary scrub person who handles instruments surgical counts supplies and equipment needed for surgical/diagnostic procedures. Anticipates surgeon needs and provides prompt and efficient care for the patient through optimal aseptic scrub techniques. Has basic understanding of procedures being performed and maintains the integrity of the sterile field. Non-scrubbed functions are: room readiness preparation for surgical procedure with supplies/equipment pulled based on preference cards and patient needs transporting of patients and equipment operation and assisting with circulating duties under the immediate supervision of a Registered Nurse. Assists in ordering/stocking of supplies prepares instruments/supplies for sterilization and in maintaining a safe clean environment. Will be responsible to assist in pediatric adolescent adult and geriatric patients.

• Prepares room readiness for surgical procedure by providing equipment and supplies based on patient needs and according to physicians preference cards.
• Creates and maintains a sterile field by opening case setup by using aseptic techniques and a surgical conscience. Assist the surgical team during a surgical procedure by having instruments suture medication solutions and necessary equipment for use during the procedure and being able to perform sponge sharp and instrument counts.
• Monitor and control a safe clean environment by maintaining traffic patterns handling of hazardous materials consistently following the universal precautions and adhering to the sanitation policy/procedures in clearing of rooms between cases at the end of the work schedule and weekly or monthly cleaning assignments.
• Operates video equipment electrocautery units PhacoEmulsification machine Lithoclast and other assigned equipment.
• Prepares instruments/supplies for sterilization by decontamination sorting assemble into sets and wrapping for sterilization.
• Assists in ordering supplies from Purchasing Department and stocking supplies for the department. Maintains current stock in operating rooms.
• Assists in transporting positioning nursing care and other job duties as assigned under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

High School Diploma or equivalent is required for this position. Preference is given to graduates of a Surgical Technology program or those with previous on-the-job experience. At least two years of experience in a direct patient care field is required. Candidates must have manual skill and dextierity emotional stability coordiantion corrected vision hearing the use of two hands and two feet ability to stand for long periods of time with ability to bend lift stoop kneel reach and pull on a consistent basis.

The operating room is a high stress environment requiring quick thinking. Consideration must be given to possible exposure to radiation hazards flouroscopy and lasers.
