The Department of Womens and Gender Studies in the College of Letters and Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a lecturer in gender and health studies beginning August 2026.
This is a full-time position with responsibilities for teaching undergraduate health courses in Womens and Gender Studies. Teaching expertise should complement existing faculty expertise and include upper division courses and contributions to general education.
Job Details:
The successful candidate will be able to teach an introductory Sex Gender & Health course 1-2 additional courses in their area of expertise and contribute offerings of Individual & Society as part of our general education program. An upper division course on a) reproductive health b) gender health and disability c) LGBTQ health d)gender andmulticultural/Indigenous health studies e) gender and mental health/counselingorf) gender technologyand healthare amongWomens and Gender Studiesstrategic priorities. The candidate also will be expected to embrace the principles of diversity and inclusion as a member of the university community.
Responsibilities:
Full-Time teaching responsibilities include a 5/4 load. Required course offerings include the introductory Sex Gender and Health course 1-2 upper-division courses in the candidates area of expertise and offerings of Individual & Society as part of our general education program. Upper division courses could include classes on a) reproductive health b) gender health and disability c) LGBTQ health d)gender andmulticultural/Indigenous health studies e) gender and mental health/counselingorf) gender technologyand health among others. Faculty at UW-W may be required to teach in a variety of formats including in-person online and/or in a hybrid format. All students faculty and staff are expected to ensure their materials are digitally accessible and utilize standard technology platforms supported by UW-Whitewater. Examples include but are not limited to Navigate Canvas and Microsoft Office applications including Outlook which is essential for university email communications and scheduling.

The Department of Womens and Gender Studies at UW-Whitewater is one of the longest-standing Womens and Gender Studies programs in the Midwest. The first WomensStudies course was taught in 1971 followed by the development of a minor in 1974 and a major in 1991. Now one of 15 departments in the College of Letters and Sciences ( the department of Womens and Gender Studies ( comprised of 2 full-time dedicated faculty 2 instructional academic staff and 20 affiliated members from programs across the university. The department offers a major minor and certificate in Womens and Gender Studies a certificate in LGBTQ Studies and co-sponsors with Race and Ethnic Studies a Diversity Leadership Certificate.

Compensation:
Well-qualified candidates can expect a minimum starting salary of $50000 commensurate with the candidates education related experience and qualifications. There may be additional opportunities to teach and earn a salary during the summer months.

Required Qualifications:
A Ph.D. is required. ABD candidates will be considered. Ideal candidates could be trained in various social science andhealth-relatedfieldsincludingWomens and Gender Studies Trans Studies and Disability Studies but also could include gender experts in Medical Anthropology or SociologyPublic Health Human Sexuality or gender and health-focused specialists from Social WorkPsychologyPublic Policy and Administration among others.
Demonstrated excellence in and commitment to teaching with an emphasis on promoting the success of undergraduate students and a commitment to working with inclusive populations is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates well-versed in Womens and Gender Studies pedagogical approaches with experience in leading difficult conversations and demonstrated familiarity with high impact practices universal design online teaching and/or active learning strategies.
An interest in dual enrollment teaching is preferred
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
