Monday - Friday 5:00PM - 1:30AM ON-SITE

NOTE:
This is a non-permanent role with the expected duration of 6 months. The Department of Enterprise Services (DES) provides centralized business services to state government agencies; to other public entities such as cities counties and tribes; and to Washington residents. The Buildings & Grounds Division (B&G) is responsible for the Capitol Campus and Department of Enterprise Services (DES) managed building operations stewardship and historic preservation. B&G provides service to over 42 agencies maintains operates and preserves the 486-acre state Capitol Campus in Olympia including more than 28 buildings 18 public monuments over 6000 parking stalls four state parks and a 260-acre lake. B&G executes these responsibilities through the following service programs: Facilities Operations Grounds Operations Leadership and Admin Maintenance & Repairs Support Services (Custodial).

About the Opportunity:
As a Custodian 1 you will help keep Capitol Campus buildings clean safe and welcoming for everyone who uses them. Your work will include tasks like emptying trash vacuuming sweeping mopping dusting and cleaning restrooms offices and common areas. Youll also clean glass and fixtures restock supplies and make sure furniture is in the right place. The job involves using cleaning products and equipment safely attending trainings and meetings and keeping track of your daily work. Most importantly youll be helping DES provide a clean and healthy environment for our customers.

Duties

Some of What Youll Enjoy Doing Includes:

  • Clean and disinfect surfaces such as doors glass walls fixtures telephones and chalk trays using approved products and equipment.
  • Empty trash cans replace liners and collect trash bags for disposal in dumpsters.
  • Dust horizontal and vertical surfaces from high to low and pick up small items from floors.
  • Vacuum traffic areas under desks stairwells and other needed spaces with backpack vacuums; inspect and maintain equipment.
  • Reposition furniture properly and secure areas after cleaning.
  • Clean and disinfect restrooms including sinks toilets urinals partitions floors and mirrors; restock supplies as needed.
  • Spot clean carpets glass entrances and miscellaneous areas; sweep and mop floors.
  • Complete daily timesheets attend trainings and meetings and perform other assigned duties.
  • Other duties as needed.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Possess a valid WA State Drivers License (for certain positions not all).
  • High School diploma/GED equivalency OR Six (6) months of experience as a Custodian 1 or equivalent.
  • Physical ability to:
    • Lift move and/or transfer 50 lbs. or more.
    • Stand walk stoop bend reach push pull and kneel.
    • Work safely with a backpack vacuum floor crew machinery and other equipment as designed for up to 8 hours.
    • Wear a uniform and use prescribed chemicals on a daily basis which may require the use of protective equipment.
    • Work in and around building occupants visitors or other trades personnel.
    • Exercise discretion in the workplace respecting the privacy and confidentiality of information found there.
    • NOTE: Temporary inability to use prescribed chemicals or equipment will require documented medical evidence and if not resolved will prevent successful performance of required duties of this position.
  • General ability:
    • Read write speak and understand English.
    • Meet productivity standards deadlines and work schedules.
    • Make the best use of available time and resources and understand the importance of respecting the privacy and property of customers.
    • Ability to demonstrate ethical behavior and impress its importance upon others.
    • Ability to accept personal responsibility to develop talents and knowledge.
    • Work in a crowded high pressure work environment.
  • Commitment and ability to remain alert for signs of suspicious or criminal activity in the working environment.
  • Commitment to complete required training during the probationary period for all new custodians.
  • Commitment to attend and complete classroom training regarding the OS1 process tools and chemicals.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum age of eighteen (18) years old.
  • Commitment to obtain additional licenses and/or certifications as needed. NOTE: It is the employers responsibility to ensure appropriate licenses and/or certificates are obtained for each position.
