About the Work Unit:
Special Collections and University Archives (SCUA) is part of the Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries System. The mission of SCUA is to deliver a legacy of cultural heritage by acquiring preserving and making perpetually accessible paper-based analog and digital collections of rare books manuscripts photographs artifacts audio-visual Vanderbilt institutional archives and any other information resources or data sets we deem under the aegis of special collections.
Key Functions and Expected Performance:
Hiring a temporary worker for processing university archive materials allows us to respond to the recommendations of the recent peer review of SCUA and begin to process the backlog of currently held records and free up space for new University Archive transfers. This position reports to the University Archivist. The person in this position will (under instruction from the University Archivist) -
improve access to the University Archives through processing (arrangement description and metadata creation) according to professional standards.
barcode archival boxes and enter data into ArchivesSpace (our archival information system).
Prepare collections for migration to Aeon (our archival materials tracking system).
Supervisory Relationships:
This position reports to the University Archivist.
Education and Certifications:
A bachelors degree is required for this position.
Experience and Skills:
Must be able to lift archival storage boxes and climb ladders
Ability to work collaboratively with librarians and archivists
Good written and oral communication skills
Ability to work independently
