Sarasota Memorial First Physicians Group is recruiting to add two PRN Nurse Midwives to join our OB Hospitalist group and established midwife practitioners providing 24/7 coverage at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

The hospital has a level III NICU 33 private rooms and an 8-bed OB Emergency Care Center. The system delivers over 4100 babies a year and is the only hospital in Sarasota County with a NICU. The Mother Baby unit holds 28 beds and Labor & Delivery has 14 spacious suites 3 C-Sections Operating Rooms and a 4-bed recovery area.

Sarasota Memorial Hospital is listed among U.S. News 50 Best Hospitals for Obstetrics/Gynecology Care for 2025 -2026. Sarasota Memorial also received Level III Maternal Care Verification from the Joint Commission in collaboration with the American College of Obstetrics. SMH is the systems 897-bed flagship facility with a CMS 5-star rating for its overall quality and is the only hospital in Florida and one of just 33 across the nation to maintain its top rating since 2016.

Position Highlights:

  • Availability to work 3-12 hour shifts a month.
  • Majority of night shift coverage.
  • Work in collaboration with OB Hospitalist group.
  • Provide assessment and care to OB triage intrapartum and postpartum patients.
  • Management of normal vaginal births.
  • First assist C-Sections.
  • Willingness to teach ER residents CNM and medical students.

Required Qualifications:

  • Licensed or eligible for licenseas an APRN-CNM in Florida
  • Graduate of an accredited program
  • At least one year of recent inpatient experience with inpatient delivery case log available.

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) reflects the mission vision and values of Sarasota Memorial Health Care System adheres to the organizations Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program and complies with all relevant policies procedures guidelines and other regulatory and accreditation standards. The APRN III typically work in a multidisciplinary setting including first assist procedures (chest tube line placement etc) multiple inpatient units managing patient care which includes critical care trauma and surgery. An APRN is a registered nurse and therefore can perform all duties that are considered routine duties of a registered addition an APRN holds a masters or doctoral degree. The APRN functions as part of the multidisciplinary health team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentialing committee to provide high-quality cost-effective advanced nursing care to patients within the APRNs scope of practice.

Required Qualifications

- Require advanced degree from an accredited school or college of nursing*

*Must have had a Medicare number in the State of Florida prior to 1/1/03; if not must have a Masters Degree in nursing in addition to being a Registered Professional Nurse who is authorized by Florida to practice in accordance with state law.
- Require approved APRN board certification**.

**Must be certified as a APRN by a recognized national certifying body having established standards for APRNs. The following organizations are recognized national certifying bodies for the Nurse Practitioner: American Academy of Nurse Practitioners; American Nurses Credentialing Center; National Certification Corporation for Obstetric Gynecologic and Neonatal Nursing Specialties; National Certification Board of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners & Nurses; Oncology Nurses Certification Corporation; Critical Care Certification Corporation; National Commission on Certification; and American Association of Heart Failure Nurses.

Preferred Qualifications

- Prefer ability to work independently and effectively with physicians and other allied health personnel in the hospital and/or office setting.
- Prefer knowledge of state federal and local health care agencies and programs.
- Prefer ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Prefer demonstrated clinical competency skills.
- Prefer demonstrated knowledge of pharmacology as it relates to health care practice and current prescription writing skills/DEA licensing.
- Prefer demonstrated skills in documentation in medical records to substantiate accurate billing.
- Prefer demonstrated written & verbal communication & strong analytical skills.
- Prefer effective interaction skills to ensure the successful care of patients in the clinical setting.
- Prefer effective leadership and strong interpersonal skills.
- Prefer knowledge of relevant state and federal laws statutes and regulations.
