Job Summary:

The Services to Students with Disabilities (SSD) office at California State University San Bernardino provides programs and services that promote access equity and inclusion for students with disabilities. The Graduate Student Assistant Notetaking Services plays a front-line role in this mission by helping ensure students have equal access to course content through coordinated notetaking accommodations.

Working in a fast-paced student-focused environment the Graduate Assistant supports SSDs notetaking program by assisting professional staff with coordination of Peer and Electronic Notetaking maintaining accessibility of course materials and providing direct support to students approved for notetaking accommodations. The position also contributes to related operational areas including data entry assistive technology troubleshooting and communication with faculty and campus partners to facilitate accommodation delivery.

This role offers an opportunity to develop professional skills in communication organization and disability services while gaining insight into higher education operations. Lead work direction is provided by the SSD Administrative Analyst and the Accommodations Coordinator team.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Under direct supervision duties include but are not limited to:

  • Support SSDs notetaking accommodation program by coordinating Peer and Electronic Notetaking assignments in collaboration with SSD staff.
  • Review and ensure accessibility of course notes for students approved for notetaking accommodations including students who are blind or have low vision.
  • Provide assistance and troubleshooting for assistive technology and software related to notetaking services such as Smartpen electronic notetaking platforms and AIM.
  • Communicate with students notetakers faculty and SSD staff to facilitate the delivery of notetaking accommodations.
  • Perform data entry and record maintenance in AIM and related SSD databases to ensure accurate tracking of notetaking assignments and completion status.
  • Conduct limited faculty follow-up and outreach to assigned Disability Specialists or Student Success Coaches as directed.
  • Assist with SSD office functions and service coordination during high-demand periods.
  • Maintain a welcoming professional and organized environment that reflects SSDs commitment to access and inclusion.
  • Participate in SSD office meetings trainings and day-to-day coordination of planned operations.
  • Perform general office duties and other responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty staff and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
  • Special Qualification: Admission or registration as a CSU student.

Required Qualifications

  • Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative.
  • Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate)
  • International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB. (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate)
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Payroll Requirement: Social Security Card

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty staff and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
  • Must be a matriculated graduate student at California State University San Bernardino enrolled in a minimum of 6 units.
  • Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to FERPA and campus privacy guidelines.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Admission or registration as a CSU student in a graduate program.
  • As a Bridge Student Assistant the student need not be registered as a student but must have been enrolled as a CSU student the previous term and be registered for the following term.
  • Must be a matriculated graduate student at California State University San Bernardino enrolled in a minimum of 3 units.

Special Conditions

  • Ability to work a minimum of 20 hours per week
  • Must be able to operate a golf cart and wheelchair accessible van.

Compensation and Benefits:

Student Employment Anticipated Hiring Range: $16.50 per hour.

The compensation offered will consider internal equity and experience among other factors.

Position Information:

Work status: Part-Time Temporary Seasonal

Academic year available hours: Monday through Friday (8:00 am 5:00 pm).

Summer available hours: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm).

This is an On-Campus Only position. Student Employees are not eligible to telecommute at any time.

As of January 1 2022 the CSU Out-of-State Employment Policy prohibits the hiring of employees to perform CSU-related work outside the state of California.

Conditions of Employment

Background Check

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) may be required for student employment purposes. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check when required may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Drivers License Check

Possession of a valid Drivers License may be required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid drivers license and reflects driving record.
