CONTRACT DAYS:240 Days (will be prorated based on start date)

SALARY:$33.18 - $45.93 (will be prorated based on start date and currently in negotiations 2025-26)

Job Purpose: The position of Athletic Trainer provides specialized athletic training services to student athletes as a member of the athletic health care team in consultation with a licensed physician in accordance with the state practice act. Athletic training services include wellness and injury/illness prevention initial assessment evaluation immediate and emergency care treatment and rehabilitation which may include modalities as well as developing treatment programs for injured athletes.

Works under the supervision of the Principal and direction of the District Athletic Director. The incumbent works independently and interfaces daily with coaches school staff student/athletes parents and other health care professionals. Work is evaluated based on meeting district professional clinical technical communication and documentation requirements and standards and to make decisions based on established National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) guidelines.

Essential Job Functions:

    • Researches develops and implements prevention and wellness programs to reduce athletic injuries and illnesses in compliance with athletic policies procedures and state law.
    • Conducts initial injury/illness assessments; determines activity restrictions develops and administers individualized treatment and rehabilitation plans evaluates progress and modifies treatment as needed. Refers athletes to physicians when necessary.
    • Advises coaches on conditioning nutrition protective equipment/devices and injury prevention strategies.
    • Attends multisport athletic contests and practices as scheduled by agreement with the Athletic Director. Monitors athletes movement and mechanics to identify risks and prevent injury.
    • Provides emergency care first aid triage and communication procedures for urgent situations.

  • Develops implements and maintains Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) for all practice and game locations in coordination with school administration and the Athletic Director.

    • Educates coaches students and parents on sports injury prevention treatment and recovery.
    • Maintains confidential accurate and complete student documentation as required by law district policy and administrative regulations including training records injury/accident reports treatment records home care instructions referrals rehabilitation progress notes and insurance information.
    • Schedules and administers and interprets pre-and post-injury neuropsychological testing for concussion management.
    • Manages concussion protocols including communication with school staff parents and medical providers; evaluates readiness for return to play.

  • Serves as a liaison among student-athletes parents/guardians school staff coaches and medical professionals to ensure coordinated care and safe return-to-play decisions.

  • Maintains athletic training facilities equipment and supplies within budget.

Other Job Functions:

  • Supports district and school initiatives related to student health safety and well-being.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Attend meetings assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

Job Requirements - Qualifications:

Experience Required:

  • Experience working effectively with culturally diverse students families and communities and skill in cross-cultural communication or have otherwise demonstrated a commitment to strengthening engagement of a diverse community.

Skills Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with staff students parents and supervisors using professional judgment and discretion.
  • Bilingual and bicultural skills preferred.

Education Required:

  • Bachelors degree in Athletic Training Kinesiology Sports Medicine or related field and one (1) year of progressively responsible athletic training experience in a high school or collegiate setting; OR
  • Masters degree in Athletic Training Kinesiology Sports Medicine or related field.

Licenses Certifications Bonding and/or Testing Required:

  • Athletic Trainer certification through the Board of Certification (BOC)
  • Valid Oregon athletic trainer registration by the Oregon Health Authority/Health Licensing Office
  • Emergency Cardiac Care Certification including adult pediatric AED airway obstruction and barrier devices
  • OSAA certification as a Wrestling Body Composition Assessor (or ability to obtain) to conduct wrestler body composition assessments in compliance with the Oregon Wrestling Weight Monitoring Program.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Instructor certification in First Aid CPR and AED (or ability to obtain).

Physical and Environmental Requirements of the Position:

  • Medium physical work demand.
  • Frequent standing walking kneeling squatting climbing stairs stretching and lifting up to 60 lbs.
  • Ability to guide athletic activities conduct stretching exercises and observe athletic movements.
  • Physical strength to assist athletes during examinations and emergency care.
  • Exposure to blood body fluids and infectious materials.
  • Extended outdoor exposure during athletic events and travel between sites.
  • Attendance at evening and weekend events and travel to event sites required

Other Requirements:

  • ODE Fingerprint/Background check clearance
  • Valid driver license

Terms of Employment: Salary and work year to be established by the Board.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Boards Policy on Evaluation of Support Staff Personnel.
