Job Responsibilities and Duties:
At Sibanye-Stillwater our Experienced Mine Engineer supports long-range and strategic engineering functions for the underground operations in Montana. Working within the Central Engineering Department this role is responsible for life-of-mine planning reserve estimation capital forecasting and strategic technical studies. The position is based in Columbus Montana with occasional travel to mine sites to collaborate with operational teams and support project implementation.
Essential Functions:
- Develop and maintain life-of-mine (LOM) plans for Stillwater and East Boulder operations.
- Support mineral reserve estimation and technical reporting in compliance with industry standards.
- Assist with multi-year capital budgeting and long-range forecasting.
- Contribute to feasibility and prefeasibility studies including assessment of mining methods and infrastructure.
- Conduct strategic analysis and scenario planning to evaluate development and production options.
- Recommend improvements to mine designs methods and equipment to enhance safety efficiency and economics.
- Perform technical and economic evaluations of projects expansions and operational changes.
- Collaborate closely with site-based engineering teams to align strategic plans with operational execution.
- Travel periodically to mine sites for field assessments coordination and project support.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Proven mine planning and scheduling experience.
- Experience leading improvement initiatives.
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to work autonomously as well as within a team-based environment.
- Intermediate to advance understanding of MSHA regulations.
- Familiarity with cost reporting and cost tracking analysis.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
- Proficient use of the Deswik or other 3D mine design planning software packages.
- Working knowledge and understanding of cost and schedule variance.
Education & Experience
- BS in Mining Engineering or equivalent with 2-15 years engineering experience.
