Summary
Under general supervision the Assistant County Administrator is responsible for providing high-level administrative support to the County Administrator assisting with the day-to-day operations of county government by managing projects overseeing specific departments coordinating initiatives analyzing data and representing the county at meetings and events. This individual will ensure compliance with all local state and federal laws and regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Duties include the following:
- Leads and coordinates complex projects assigned by the County Administrator including budget monitoring timeline management and elected officials/department head engagement.
- Supervises staff within designated county departments ensuring efficient operations and compliance with policies while providing guidance and mentorship.
- Assists with the administration and management of daily departmental operations to ensure the development of weekly Commissioners Court agendas briefing items correspondence and Court Orders.
- Directs and conducts studies research and investigations on a wide variety of administrative and technical areas.
- Provides management coordination and communication to all elected officials/department heads on legislative intergovernmental and operational needs of the county.
- Assists in the development and management of county budgets including tracking expenditures and identifying cost-saving measures.
- Communicate effectively with the public elected officials/department heads and outside agencies.
- Organizes and facilitates meetings prepares agendas and takes minutes.
- Leads special projects or initiatives as assigned by the County Administrator.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Attendance is an essential function of the job.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required. Bachelors degree from a four-year College or university in Business Administration Management Public Administration or a field directly related to one or more of the functional areas assigned; a minimum of seven (7) years of responsible professional management experience in a position of similar scope and responsibilities to include Finance Planning and Budget at an executive level of state and local government or public sector management/administration is required.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the principles methods and techniques of public administration organizational development and government funding sources and financing methods.
- Ability to analyze complex problems and recommend alternative solutions; and prepare and implement short and long-range strategic plans including considerations of budgetary and public impact.
- Ability to analyze and make sound recommendations relating to complex financial business budget and administrative matters.
- Knowledge of the general laws and administrative policies governing County financial practices and procedures.
- Experience demonstrating strong verbal and written communication skills in a management role including the ability to effectively convey information through presentations to individuals small groups and large audiences including elected officials.
- Knowledge of internal control procedures.
- Knowledge of the general principles and methodology of business management functions.
- Knowledge of conflict resolution techniques.
