Job Summary

Job Purpose:

The Customer Business Development Group has an immediate need for a Category & Shopper Insight Manager. Reporting to the Category & Shopper Insight Team Lead the successful candidate will drive best practice category management initiatives working closely with both internal & external partners. This position is located at the Ontario Head Office Toronto Ont.

Accountabilities include:

  • Developing and cultivating business relationships with the retailer to establish Unilever as the indispensable partner for all category management needs
  • Developing Category Growth Targets at the retail customer as well as an executable action plan to achieve the targets. Monitoring this plan and identifying gap closing measures where required is a component of this role. The position requires a deep understanding of the retailer strategies as well as the strategies of the competitive set in order to make sound recommendations.
  • Developing strategies & opportunities through analytics and value creation to drive growth with the Retailer. Working collaboratively with the Account Management Team to put these action plans in place and deliver growth
  • Leveraging data from multiple sources to create impactful analytics and selling stories to identify risks opportunities and performance gaps in assortment distribution shelving promotional and pricing strategies and tactics the advisorship category
  • Sourcing best in class and Global learning for the retailer on assigned categories in order to ensure leading edge category thinking. Connectivity with other Category Insight Teams around the world is essential. This position is critical in developing the entire Unilever relationship with the retailer and in ensuring that Unilever is seen as best in class vendor partner.
  • Evaluating new innovation in the marketplace and recommending listing status. Analytics on return on shelf space for all new innovation is required of the advisor position with on-going evaluation of new items vs. the items being replaced.
  • Representing the Category and Shopper Insight team interests of the Customer Business Development team and supporting the achievement of the Account/Brand/ objectives and initiatives. Act as an interface with Customers Account Customer Strategy&Planning Brand teams and outside partners (e.g. Nielsen IQ).
  • Executing the annual category management plan (on both Advisory and Non-Advisory categories) to the customer by developing and implementing best practice category management with guidance from the Team Lead.
  • Supporting the annual Business Planning process specifically the development of Trade Category Plans and Account Joint Business Planning through data analysis and opportunity identification.

What you will need:

  • A university degree with an emphasis in business and/or marketing.
  • Proven interpersonal analytical technical and problem solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines with minimal supervision are key competencies required for the position.
  • Previous work experience within Category Insight Trade Management Account/Brand Management or Nielsen work experience is preferred.
  • Must have an excellent command of the English language and good oral and written communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer application packages (Word Excel PowerPoint etc.) is required.
  • Knowledge of market research including MarketTrack and Homescan is essential.
  • Previous category management at the retail or manufacturer level as well as Shelf/Space Management software experience are definite assets.
  • Possess a valid Ontario drivers license which is in good standing.
