Job Summary

THE FOLLOWING LONG TERM OCCASIONAL TEACHING POSITION IS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE:

LTO - Full Time (1.0) -Temporary Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

This date may end earlier and notice will be given to the successful candidate as required in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Work cooperatively with teachers and principals to support the students program within the context of the Ontario Curriculum
  • Provide direct support to students with hearing loss
  • Work with teachers to help make program adaptations to support students with hearing loss
  • Provide inservice to individual teachers groups and students about hearing loss and its implications
  • Provide guidance and facilitate in the establishment of current and innovative instructional and assessment strategies and tools
  • Work effectively to integrate technology into teacher practice
  • Liaise with parents and community partners to support the needs of students with hearing loss

Job Information:

  • The position is based at Academic Services 345 Livingstone Street East Barrie and requires travel to any elementary school within the Board.
  • Travel costs will be based from Academic Services to the schools.
  • If the return distance on Board business on any given day is less than the return trip between the employees residence to the Academic Services work location the employee is not eligible for travel reimbursement.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ontario Teachers Certificate in good standing
  • Minimum 5 years teaching experience in either the Elementary or Secondary panel and have additional qualifications as Teacher of the Deaf
  • Preferred qualifications: Oral and Aural Communication Specialist American Sign Language
  • This position requires qualifications for teaching students who are deaf and hard of hearing and extensive experience working with and programming for students with hearing loss in addition to expertise in supporting the technology related to amplification equipment
  • Have an up to date knowledge of amplification systems and other technology used by students with hearing loss
  • Be able to work collaboratively as a team member in cooperation with other school personnel parents/guardians students and community partners
  • Possess leadership flexibility and organizational skills
  • Be able to maintain records of student intervention and equipment needs
  • Work with students in the elementary and secondary panels
  • Demonstrated well developed writing skills and knowledge of effective use of computers
  • Demonstrated commitment to reducing and eliminating systemic barriers that impact student achievement and well being and integrating First Nation Inuit Metis education across the curriculum
  • Ability to communicate effectively to be comfortable making presentations to a wide varietyof stakeholders
  • This position involves extensive travelling from school to school within the Boards jurisdiction therefore applicants must have a car and a valid Ontario Drivers licence.
  • Ability to meet the demands of a flexible schedule
