Job Duties
Screens forms returned by prospective patients to ensure that all required information demographic and financial is present.
Enters patient data into computerized admission system. Assigns beds where appropriate.
Investigates insurance/benefits coverage for all emergency hospital admissions and for all patients with reservations for elective surgery.
Contacts insurance companies and/or the patient by telephone or in person to verify specific insurance conditions or requirements (i.e. second opinion pre-certification mandatory waiting periods); follows up to make sure conditions are met before the patient is admitted.
Obtains from third party insurers information on the extent and type of benefits available; calculates the patients responsibility for payment of deposit or monthly payments in relation to anticipated length of stay.
Advises patients without third party coverage about possible alternatives for their admission (i.e. COBRA Medicaid Charity Care).
Places follow-up phone calls for collection of accounts.
Maintains and monitors daily and monthly reports.
Participates in locating and pulling accounts for audit or as needed.

Maintains established departmental policies and procedures objectives quality assurance program safety environmental and infection control standards. Assesses gaps in policies and procedures and create necessary policies and procedures to fulfill these gaps.
Understands and adheres to the Medical Centers Code of Conduct.
Familiar with the Medical Centers Mission Vision and Values Statements.

Position Qualifications
Successful completion of an approved course or program in hospital physician billing or third-party insurance preferred.
Minimum of 1 year of billing or insurance experience in a physicians office hospital or insurance office required or suitable combination of education and experience.
Typing: minimum 25 wpm.
Computer literate.
Good interpersonal skills.
Good oral and written communications skills.
Working knowledge of medical terminology and insurance preferred.
Speaks reads and writes English to the extent required by the position; knowledge of a second language preferred.
Education
High School graduation or equivalent required
Job Setting/Physical Demands

Mainly sedentary with occasional walking and standing.
Occasional reaching bending stooping crouching kneeling.
Salary commensurate with experience within posted range
$21.16/hour
