Job Summary
The 2nd Shift Lead Hand supports daily logistics center operations by providing direction to team members ensuring workflow is maintained and assisting the Supervisor with shift performance. This position serves as a working lead responsible for coordinating tasks monitoring safety and quality and helping resolve day-to-day issues to keep operations running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Supervision
- Lead and coordinate daily activities of logistics team members including warehouse staff drivers and material handlers.
- Act as a working lead for the 2nd shift team setting priorities delegating tasks and monitoring progress.
- Provide training coaching and performance feedback to ensure team efficiency engagement and adherence to company standards.
- Support the Supervisor in ensuring productivity safety and quality goals are met.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for shift questions and provide direction in the Supervisors absence.
Shipping & Receiving
- Oversee accurate and timely shipping and receiving of goods.
- Ensure proper documentation labeling and handling of all incoming and outgoing shipments.
- Communicate and escalate issues with the Distribution Center (DC) and internal departments to resolve delays or discrepancies.
Inventory Management
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate cycle counts to maintain accuracy.
- Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies in collaboration with warehouse and procurement teams.
- Support efficient material flow and ensure proper stock rotation and storage practices.
Health & Safety Compliance
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with workplace health and safety regulations.
- Conduct regular safety inspections report hazards and assist in incident investigations.
- Maintain a clean safe and organized work environment in accordance with 5S principles.
Process Improvement & Reporting
- Identify opportunities to improve logistics processes reduce waste and increase efficiency.
- Assist in implementing new systems tools or procedures to enhance operations.
- Maintain accurate records of shipments inventory and shift performance.
- Prepare and communicate reports on logistics metrics and KPIs as requested by management.
Equipment & Facility Oversight
- Ensure proper use care and maintenance of warehouse equipment (e.g. forklifts pallet jacks scanners).
- Support facility cleanliness organization and equipment availability to sustain smooth operations.
Team & Management Support
- Foster a collaborative and positive work environment.
- Support team members in daily tasks and uphold management directives.
- Promote open communication and teamwork between shifts and departments.
Qualifications
Required:
- Must be a current employee in good standing.
- Must have less than 2 attendance points at the time of application.
- Demonstrated reliability teamwork and ability to lead peers.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Flexibility to work overtime or adjust hours as needed.
Preferred:
- Previous leadership or team lead experience.
- Proven ability to train and mentor team members.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with SAP WMS or other logistics systems.
- Ability to adapt quickly to shifting priorities and handle multiple tasks effectively.
