Job Summary

Oneida Professional Services (OPS) is actively seeking a highly motivated full-time Technical Writer for the FAA Corporate Training Solutions Division.

*This position is contingent on the award of a federal contract.

Compensation: $42.73 / Hour

Position Summary

The Technical Writer (TW) supports the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Corporate Training Solutions Division at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center (MMAC) by developing writing and editing technical and instructional materials for new and revised FAA training courses. The Technical Writer works collaboratively with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) instructional designers and graphic artists to ensure all courseware and publications are clear accurate and compliant with FAA standards policies and guidelines.

This position plays a key role in producing professional high-quality instructional materials including lesson plans instructor guides course manuals storyboards training aids and related publications that support the FAAs mission to deliver world-class training solutions.

Primary Responsibilities

Content Development & Documentation

  • Develop write proofread and edit instructional materials for FAA training courses in multiple delivery media (print digital web-based and presentation formats).
  • Create and revise materials such as lesson plans scripts course books instructor guides training aids manuals reports and proposals.
  • Ensure content adheres to FAA training standards maintains consistency of tone and supports instructional objectives.
  • Incorporate visualsincluding graphics charts diagrams and photographsinto materials to enhance clarity and learner comprehension.
  • Collaborate with SMEs and courseware developers to validate technical accuracy and completeness of training materials.

Editing & Quality Assurance

  • Review written content for objectivity accuracy writing style and format consistency.
  • Edit and reformat written and electronic drafts for publication readiness ensuring proper grammar structure and terminology.
  • Perform page and layout formatting integrating text and graphics for instructional use.
  • Track and maintain version control and records of all documentation and training materials.

Research & Collaboration

  • Research manuals reports and FAA publications to stay informed of evolving technologies policies and methodologies.
  • Coordinate with FAA personnel to clarify technical content while preserving the intent and meaning of source material.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative training and instructional approaches through continuous improvement of materials and methods.

Technical Tools

  • Use Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel PowerPoint) Adobe Acrobat and graphic design applications to develop and modify course documentation.
  • Perform minor graphic adjustments or reformatting of illustrations and visual elements for publication purposes.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Education

  • Required: High School Diploma or GED

Experience

  • At least three (3) years of practical verifiable experience in:
    • Writing proofreading and editing technical or instructional materials
    • Applying proper English usage grammar and style consistency
    • Using Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint) Adobe Acrobat and basic graphic tools
    • Editing and formatting written or electronic drafts for publication
    • Designing and formatting pages integrating graphics and maintaining publication standards
    • Coordinating reviews with subject matter experts or agency personnel

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to clarity and detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce accurate professional technical and instructional documentation.
  • Excellent proofreading and editing skills ensuring grammatical precision and stylistic consistency.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Adobe Acrobat and basic design software.
  • Strong organizational skills including document control and version tracking.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team-oriented fast-paced environment.

Additional Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Must be able to pass a background investigation and meet FAA security requirements.
  • Ability to work on-site at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center (MMAC) and collaborate with FAA and contractor personnel.
