Job Responsibilities
Responsible for delivering and evaluating specialized instructions for correctional staff directly assigned to restricted housing units.
Reviews and instructs RHU-specific procedures for all RHU assigned protocol.
Instruct staff in de-escalation communication techniques and incident response to reduce violence and maintain order.
Conduct scenarios-based and hands-on instruction for high-risk situations including use of restraints and cell extractions.
Monitor RHU staff performance provide coaching and recommend targeted instruction where needed.
Ensure staff compliance with applicable laws policies and security procedures for the RHU.
Maintain and prepare reports and recommend procedural improvements.
Participate in policy development review and implementation relating to RHU operations.
Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and relevant supervisory experience. A bachelors degree in a related field may substitute for the required supervisory experience.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
(Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources).
Eight (8) years of experience in correctional security military or police work to include four (4) year of supervisory experience.
A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate 2 years bachelors and above 4 years).
Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
