Building internal tools that power world-class support at scale
At Wolt we believe exceptional customer service is more than just a feature its a fundamental part of who we are . Thats why weve built our own internal support tooling from the ground up tailored to help our customer courier and merchant support teams shine in every interaction.
As we grow across 30 countries supporting millions of users and partners our internal tools need to scale too. Thats where the Support Comms team comes in enabling support associates across Wolt operations to use our in-house communication platforms for both email and chat. Today these platforms already handle millions of conversations every month and were building them to scale more than 10x to meet the needs of our fast-growing global community.
Were now looking for a Senior Backend Engineer () to join our team in creating scalable low-latency systems that help our 25M users and 300K partners get the support they need - quickly reliably and with a human touch.
This role can be based in one of our tech hubs in Helsinki or Stockholm.
What youll do:
- Build and maintain high-throughput backend services using .
- Collaborate with product managers designers and frontend developers to ship features that support internal support agents across the globe.
- Design systems that are scalable resilient and easy to maintain.
- Lead and contribute to architectural discussions and technical decision-making.
- Write well-tested code and help the team maintain high code quality standards.
- Take ownership of services end-to-end from design and implementation to monitoring and ongoing improvements.
Our humble expectations:
- 7 years of production experience in with the ability to mentor others in best practices.
- Strong experience with SQL and NoSQL databases - especially Cassandra.
- Experience designing and operating low-latency high-throughput distributed systems is a big plus.
- Product-oriented mindset we value engineers who think beyond the ticket and understand the why behind the work.
- Experience in leading projects or making key technical decisions is expected at this level.
- Proven experience owning projects or components and driving them to completion.
- Clear communicator with a collaborative spirit we move fast but we do it together.
Nice to have:
- Background in Golang or other backend languages.
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS GCP) and event-driven architectures.
- Previous on-call experience with a pragmatic approach to reliability and incident management. We support healthy balanced on-call practices and make sure responsibility is shared fairly.
