Job Summary

Permanent Full-time (37.5 hours per week)

The Hospice of the Good Shepherd is seeking a motivated and dynamic community fundraiser to join our fundraising team. You will be responsible for community fundraising activity in a defined geographic area and for growing income and continuing to grow the network of supporters who share our vision.

You will focus on developing relationships and stewarding community supporters whilst creating and developing exciting new opportunities and community events for our supporters to fundraise for us.

About Us

The Hospice of the Good Shepherd provides vital care and support to patients and their families facing life-limiting illnesses. We offer all of our services completely free-of-charge to patients and their families who live in West Cheshire and 2025 our annual running costs will exceed 5m per year. With only 17% of this coming from central funding we rely heavily on the community we serve to bridge the over 4m funding gap.

The Role

As a member of the community fundraising team you will:

  • Research identify recruit and nurture new relationships with individuals Community Groups Schools and other groups identified to promote their own fundraising activities together with them participating in the Charitys home-grown flagship events.
  • To identify and develop community groups and promote Charity of the Year proposals and manage these relationships and partnerships as they are secured.
  • Develop and grow income from the local SME businesses as part of the community development plan working in conjunction with the Corporate & Relationship Manager.
  • Develop and establish an annual programme of talks and presentations to community groups and schools to raise awareness of the work of the Hospice and recruit them to raise funds for the Charity.
  • Lead and deliver on schools fundraising activities such as Elf Run Bunny Hop and enterprise schemes.
  • To recruit develop and manage fundraising volunteers to aide with your role.
  • Assist in the management of activities such as bag packs/bucket collections and collection tin programmes.
  • To be proactive in creating fundraising opportunities and maximise them to the fullest.
  • To ensure that all supporters donors and volunteers have a first-class experience of their contact and relationship with the Charity.

Plan support and deliver a number of community-based events and activities organised directly by the organisation.

What Were Looking For

  • Proven experience in community fundraising marketing sales hospitality or event management.
  • Excellent communication networking and presentation skills.
  • Experience of managing several projects at the same time often with conflicting priorities and working to tight deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of relationship management.
  • A real people person who will resonate with our supporters
  • A degree and/or fundraising qualification is desirable but not essential.
  • Must hold a full UK driving license and be willing to work outside standard office hours.

The Hospice is a great place to work and in Backford Chester (with retail shops in Chester and Ellesmere Port) the Hospice provides specialist palliative and end-of-life care in a welcoming and compassionate environment.

Our specialist team of medical and nursing staff deliver end of life care to our patients and support their families carers and friends but our services are varied across a number of disciplines and reflect the diverse nature of our care and addition to Doctors Nurses and Health care roles we employ staff in a wide range of roles including Fundraising and Retail in our charity shops Housekeeping and Catering Social Work and Family Support such as Counselling and Spiritual Care Living Well / Day Services as well as Business Support functions such as Administration People & Development and Finance.

We also have a large number of Volunteer roles in all these service have been supported by our volunteers ever since the hospice was established and we now have over 400 people contributing their time in so many different ways. Every hour volunteered allows us to continue providing specialist care and we are always welcoming applications for new volunteers so please get in touch.
