Description of Job

The Work Unit:

The Prevention Services Division works with public and private partners across Colorado to improve the health of all Coloradans. Division professionals develop review implement and evaluate public health interventions proven to promote healthy living prevent chronic disease protect against injury and ensure access to health care and opportunities for a healthy lifestyle. The Division is committed to the professional development collaborative effort and sustained wellness of its workforce.


The Prevention Services Division is actively building a workforce reflective of the diverse communities we serve. The Division strives to understand the needs of Colorados communities and encourages contributions of stakeholders in identifying and solving public health problems. The Children Youth and Families (CYF) branchis the organizational entity within the Prevention Services Division that plans designs implements and evaluates public health interventions related to pregnant and postpartum people children and youth including children and youth with special health care needs with a goal of maximizing the health and well-being of Colorados maternal and child health population. Special emphasis is placed on evidence-based practices data-based decision-making training technical assistance community partnerships and integration of various branch program efforts to assure health outcomes are maximized. The branch consists of the following four sections: Family Adversity & Mortality Prevention Section MCH Workforce Development Section Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs Section and Maternal and Child Health Section. This position is in the Family Adversity & Mortality Prevention Section.


The Position:

Guides community engagement efforts for the Maternal Health Program and is responsible for providing grantee support to improve maternal health outcomes. This includes building and maintaining relationships with statewide and community-based organizations to effectively engage individuals with lived and/or community-based experience to inform public health efforts to improve perinatal wellbeing. Responsible for monitoring contracts for community-based and hospital-based grantees; including development of budgets and scopes of work providing technical assistance and support to grantees to support implementation of grant deliverables ensuring payment for services by reviewing and submitting invoices and completing department contract monitoring requirements. Leads implementation of strategies for Maternal and Child Health (MCH) priorities focused on perinatal wellbeing with an emphasis on community-based and community-led solutions and incorporating community voices into the identification development and implementation of strategies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

An applicant may meet the minimum qualifications for this job in one of two ways: They may qualify through their work experience alone or through a combination of education and work experience.

Experience Only:

Six (6) years of relevant experience inmaternal health public health health policy community engagement health systems and/or with programs involved in promoting and implementing public health or public policy initiatives or other related fields.


OR

Education and Experience:

A combination of related education graduation from an accredited college or university inmaternal health public health health policy community engagement health systems or similar health initiative degrees and/or relevant experience in maternal health public health health policy community engagement health systems and/or with programs involved in promoting and implementing public health or public policy initiatives or other related fields equal to Six (6) years.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

In addition to the minimum requirements the successful candidate in this position will have the following experience:

  • Experience working in perinatal wellbeing interventions that support families and their vital conditions for health including trends best practices and emerging issues; ability to apply ideas and experience to improve and add value to the program.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the unique complexities and systemic barriers that impact maternal and child health outcomes individuals and families experience during the perinatal period regarding receiving the care services and support informed by lived and/or professional experience.
  • Outstanding skills and abilities in verbal and written communications including presentation skills; ability to adapt a style to fit diverse audiences of varying technical levels and at various levels within an organization in groups and individual settings.

  • Experience providing support and technical assistance to groups and individuals including experience monitoring deliverables and invoices from contractors.

  • Experience using communications strategies and tactics to disseminate information to partners including experience communicating through newsletters educational materials and information to support public awareness.

  • Demonstrated success cultivating and sustaining collaborative partnerships and relationships among diverse organizations or groups ranging from health care institutions to organizations with direct connections to communities especially those reaching families with diverse backgrounds cultures and languages.

  • Demonstrated experience in project management and facilitation including establishing goals and timelines coordinating resources monitoring progress engaging and working with internal and external partners measuring results and advancing the goals of the program.

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to change and easily consider new approaches. Manages competing demands. Adapts behavior or work methods to best fit the situation in response to new information changing conditions or unexpected obstacles. Effectively deals with ambiguity.


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Pursuant to CDPHE policy a background check is required for all positions at CDPHE.
  • TRAVEL: 10% of time required to travel 1-2X a year out-of-state as required for grantee meetings and potentially other national -state travel is required 2-3X a month to engage community partners.
