Save the Children Action Network (SCAN) a 501(c)(4) organization is the political advocacy arm of Save the Children. We are building bipartisan support to make sure every child has a strong start in life. Were doing this by advocating for high-quality early learning and ending child hunger in the U.S. the safety of children arriving at the southern U.S. border and educating and protecting kids around the world.

The Role

SCAN is seeking a strategic results-driven Lead Associate for National Volunteer Engagement to build and sustain SCANs grassroots infrastructure in remotely staffed and supported states. This role is central to advancing SCANs mission by developing volunteer leaders activating supporters and strengthening advocacy pipelines in key states to influence federal and state-level policy outcomes.

Working closely with the State and National Campaigns Student Engagement and Volunteer Leadership & Training teams youll lead efforts to recruit train and mobilize volunteer leaders build advocacy capacity in high-potential regions and ensure our grassroots organizing aligns with national campaigns and SCANs annual goals and KPIs.

What Youll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Build and Strengthen Advocacy Infrastructure in Priority States (60%)

  • Under the direction of the Managing Director lead SCANs organizing strategy in Remotely Staffed States (e.g. Arkansas Idaho Michigan Pennsylvania Wisconsin) driving engagement aligned with SCANs federal and state campaign priorities.
  • Under the direction of the Managing Director develop volunteer leadership teams that coordinate advocacy actions (e.g. legislative meetings LTEs petitions digital actions and local events).
  • Recruit and onboard new volunteers through digital campaigns partnerships and direct outreach with a focus on diversity equity and inclusion in volunteer leadership.
  • Partner with the Student Engagement Team to expand student clubs and integrate youth voices into state-level advocacy.
  • Deliver ongoing leadership development leveraging SCANs training curriculum to move volunteers up the ladder of engagement.
  • Build coalitions and local partnerships to increase SCANs visibility and influence on priority issues.

Manage and Innovate SCANs National Volunteer Program (40%)

  • Under the direction of the Managing Director lead SCANs national volunteer engagement systems ensuring alignment with campaign strategies and integration across departments (Campaigns Training P2P Fundraising Comms and Digital).
  • Under the direction of the Managing Director design and implement a volunteer communication strategy including email updates webinars monthly volunteer calls and peer-to-peer connections.
  • Support in the development of data systems for tracking volunteer engagement and campaign participation and perform maintenance of the same ensuring accurate reporting and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate on training design and delivery supporting pathways for volunteers to become Volunteer Leaders Advocacy Champions or Peer-to-Peer Fundraisers.
  • Monitor and apply best practices in volunteer engagement and grassroots organizing to strengthen SCANs movement-building approach.

Required qualifications for the role

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent plus at least 3 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with grassroots legislative advocacy on federal policy.
  • Experience supporting volunteers in a hybrid (remote and in-person) capacity..
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 30% to priority districts
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English

    Preferred qualificationsfor the role

    • Experience working on state legislative or electoral campaigns.
    • Experience in campus and youth outreach and engagement campaigns.

    Compensation

    Save the Children Action Network is offering the following salary ranges for this position dependent on candidate location:

    • Geo 1 - NY Metro DC and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $66300 $74100 base salary
    • Geo 2 - Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $60350 $67450 base salary
    • Geo 3 - Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $54400 $60800 base salary

      The salary ranges listed above are for US based candidates. For candidates located outside of the US salary ranges will be based on the salary scales of the local employer of record. Actual base salary may vary based on but not limited to relevant experience base salary of internal peers business sector and geographic location (more information on job structure is available here).
