Role description:
Arcadis is seeking a versatile and detail-oriented Telecommunications Engineer II to join our team in Alberta Canada. This role combines advanced telecommunications engineering with broad project support focusing on the design implementation and maintenance of fiber optic networks (including FTTP linear transport networks and ITS Communication Systems) within multi-disciplinary engineering projects. The ideal candidate has a strong background in telecommunications engineering advanced proficiency with design and data analysis tools and experience applying industry standards across complex project environments. This position requires the ability to support field inspection quality assurance and construction management activities on active broadband construction sites in rural Central Alberta with collaboration across internal teams and disciplines.
This role will sit within the larger Global Mobility Business Area. Role accountabilities:
Data Preparation and Analysis
As a Telecommunications Engineer you will collect prepare and analyze GIS data to support the design of fiber optic networks including Fiber to the Premise (FTTP) linear transport networks and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). You will also maintain accurate and detailed records of project data in GIS platforms such as QGIS and COMSOF AutoDesigner including source tracking version management and file storage and archival to support project teams. Experience with IQGeo Network Manager Telecom is an asset.
Telecommunications and Engineering Design
In this role you will assist in the creation of conceptual preliminary and detailed designs for fiber optic networks and related engineering solutions under the supervision of senior team members. You will skillfully utilize design tools such as QGIS and/or ESRI CADD (2D/3D) AutoCAD Revit and other platforms to produce accurate technical drawings and models with experience in IQGeo COMSOF Fiber and Network Manager Telecom considered an asset. Your responsibilities will also include conducting quality checks on GIS and design data to ensure accuracy compliance and consistency with both project requirements and industry standards. Additionally you will assess and specify fiber and broadband materials supporting clients in selecting the most appropriate products for their networks based on resilience durability and compatibility.
Project Support and Collaboration
As a key project resource you will complete technical assignments of increasing complexity ensuring that all tasks are delivered within budget on schedule and to the highest quality standards. Operating independently as an individual contributor you will also provide technical guidance to junior staff when required. Collaboration is essential in this role as you will work closely with internal and external design partners clients and stakeholders to ensure that project requirements are met and expectations are exceeded. You will also liaise regularly with Project Managers Team Leaders and professionals from other design disciplines to maintain the integrity and coordination of the overall project solution.
Site Surveys and Field Work
In this role you will conduct site surveys inspections and assessments to gather critical information and validate the feasibility of design solutions. You will also perform post-construction quality assurance and compliance inspections to ensure that all designs and installations meet the required standards. Additionally you will make field and client site visits as needed to support project execution and maintain effective stakeholder engagement.
Compliance and Standards
You will ensure that all designs and documentation are fully aligned with applicable industry standards and codes including ANSI/TIA BICSI NEC CEC OSHA and other relevant national standards. Additionally you will prepare and review documentation and reports to guarantee accuracy and compliance with both Arcadis and client requirements.
Vendor and Contractor Coordination
You will coordinate with vendors and contractors to ensure that all equipment and materials provided meet the established design specifications and project requirements.
Maintenance Troubleshooting and Operations
You will support telecommunications and related systems through managed service portfolios providing preventative maintenance emergency response troubleshooting and underground locate program services as needed.
Cost Estimation and Budgeting
You will prepare cost estimates budgets and proposals for telecommunications and engineering projects ensuring financial accuracy and supporting effective project planning and delivery.
Continuous Improvement and Development
You will stay updated on emerging technologies industry trends and best practices to ensure that your designs are forward-looking and innovative. Additionally you will further develop your understanding of Arcadis services client businesses and the broader industry sector to build personal credibility and facilitate effective networking.
