CLASSIFICATION: Classification VI per Schedule A of the collective agreement

DEPARTMENT: Student Accessibility Services

HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday 8:30am 4:30pm

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Student Development Specialist - Technical Facilitator is accountability for addressing the issues and needs of students with disabilities by providing the required accommodations and services to specific disability types such as hearing impaired visually impaired and physically disabled. The Specialist is also responsible for providing technical support and consultation to students faculty and staff members on topics related to the delivery of access technology throughout the university. The incumbent also has primary responsibility for the planning and support of technological needs within the division and as such functions as the IT Leader.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will have:
A Bachelors degree in a related field such as psychology social work special education or human sciences
At least one (1) year experience in a post-secondary setting working with students with disabilities
Outstanding communication interpersonal organizational and analytic skills
Ability to exercise patience tact good judgement and diplomacy and demonstrate an understanding of challenges faced by students with disabilities
Ability to exercise discretion regarding sensitive or confidential information
Demonstrated ability to take initiative
Ability to work as part of a flexible professional work team
Strong technical background related to assistive technology and software.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working with individuals with mobility and visual impairments and the ability to assess their academic needs and provide appropriate accommodations based on individual needs
Strong working knowledge of software programs extensive knowledge of campus resources and experience with group presentations and workshop delivery are preferred
Experience with supervision of applied learning placements and work study students; as well involvement in other support/activities programs is an asset
