Job Summary

DYS is seeking aNurse 1to oversee facility behavioral healthcare functions. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with a solid background and a passion to habilitate youth.

Specifically theNurse 1will:

  • Provides professional nursing care to youth assigned to CJCF including specialized & technical services (e.g. wound care oxygen therapy First Aid/CPR suctioning & phlebotomy duties); observes & records symptoms reactions & progress; ensures administration of prescribed medication; monitors restrained youth per standard procedure; triage youth for emergency treatment; provides treatment per protocol & standing orders; reports to physician and HSA; completes the transfer/intake assessment process (i.e cursory medical exam to include skin auscultation of breath & heart oral/vision screens).
  • Advises Operations on proper course of action in medical situations; maintains constant & accurate inventory of all OTC & prescription medications supplies & equipment to ensure adequate supply; monitors & reports outdated medications & supplies to supervisor.
  • Provides immediate medical attention to emergencies (e.g. administers first aid arranges transportation to hospital emergency room); responds to professional contact with medical specialist to exchange information; contacts parents/guardians; provides staff with emergency first aid treatment & enter medical information to Accident Report. Performs clerical tasks (e.g. charts & records all medications treatments & pertinent medical information; completes required reports such as incident & accident reports); responds to code blue medical emergencies.

BACKGROUND CHECK NOTICE:
The final candidate selected for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening. All new candidates hired to the Department of Youth Services must complete a mandatory 6 weeks of training. Week 1 is held at CJCF weeks 2 through 4 are held at DYS Training Academy in Orient Ohio Monday through Thursday 7:00 am - 5:00 pm. Weeks 5 - 6 are on the job training held at CJCF.

Requires current licensure as registered professional nurse in state of Ohio as issued by Board of Nursing per Section 4723.03 of Ohio Revised Code.
