Job Summary

Summary:
Are you driven to make a meaningful impact in the lives of young individuals with Special Educational Needs (SEN) This role is ideal for both seasoned SEN Teaching Assistants and graduates eager to gain practical experience in education. Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students in primary secondary or college settings.
  • Offer tailored assistance to students with ASD ADHD SEMH and other learning challenges.
  • Aid teachers in customizing lessons to accommodate individual needs using PECS Makaton and sensory-based learning methods.
  • Facilitate the development of students confidence independence and social skills through structured interventions.
  • Implement behavior management strategies and offer emotional support as required.
  • Collaborate with teachers SENCOs and therapists to foster a supportive learning environment.
  • Promote inclusion and engagement ensuring all students have access to learning opportunities.

Requirements

Requirements:

  • Graduates in Psychology Education SEN Social Work or related fields seeking practical experience.
  • Experienced Teaching Assistants Youth Workers or Support Workers passionate about SEN.
  • A patient compassionate and proactive approach to working with children and young people.
  • Familiarity or experience with SEN strategies such as PECS Makaton Team Teach or de-escalation techniques (desirable but not essential).
  • A commitment to learning and participating in ongoing CPD and training.

Postgraduate qualification or accredited training in SEND (e.g. National Award for SEN Coordination Autism Education Trust dyslexia/SpLD or SEMH specialism).Proficiency in alternative/augmentative communication methodsMakaton PECS AAC using evidence-based interventions such as TEACCH SCERTS or Positive Behaviour in Team-Teach MAPA or similar de-escalation and safe-handling with assistive ed-tech tools and adaptive software
