Job Summary

POSITION: Behavior Specialist for Special Education (Grant Funded)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:

  • Coaches and collaborates with school staff and administration to develop classroom and individualized intervention strategies that enhance behavioral skills for students with disabilities.
  • Provides guidance to school staff on evidence-based behavior intervention and management techniques through demonstration modeling and positive reinforcement of desired behaviors.
  • Writes and provides follow-up reports and guidance for school teams related to behavior interventions for students with disabilities.
  • Coaches IEP teams on the process for Functional Behavior Assessments and the implementation of Positive Behavior Intervention Plans.
  • Observes Pre-K3 Grade 12 students within various school settings across WCPS to provide suggestions to school staff on appropriate behavior interventions models the interventions and follows up with school staff to ensure success.
  • Maintains CPI and UKERU instructor status to serve as a district trainer.
  • Follows up with schools following restraint incidents to support the development of crisis plans and positive behavioral intervention plans.
  • Leads professional development in collaboration with the special education department around manifestation behaviors FBAs and BIPs.
  • Provides staff training on tiered evidence-based interventions for students with disabilities.
  • Collaborates with school staff community partners and agencies as it relates to student behavioral needs.
  • Conducts home visits and facilitates family involvement in intervention strategies and success planning for the student.
  • Serves as a member of IEP teams.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Special Education

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preferably a BCBA RBT or Autism Specialist.
  • Strong background managing high-pressure situations and navigating challenges.
  • Experience working for and collaborating with community agencies to access available resources for families.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities around behavioral interventions and behavior management.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate in oral and written forms in all situations.

DUTY YEAR AND SALARY:

  • This is a 208 day grant funded position.
