The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Central Region is looking for an Engineer/Architect 1/2 Flex (Traffic Design Engineer) in Anchorage to help us Keep Alaska Moving!
Base Salary Information:
Engineer/Architect 1 $3776.00 / bi-weekly (OT Ineligible)
Engineer/Architect 2 $4032.80 / bi-weekly (OT Ineligible)
What you will be doing:

The Engineer/Architect 1-2 flex will lead the Central Region Traffic Design team within the Traffic Safety & Utilities Section. This team collaborates closely with other functional groups to develop traffic design work in support of bid-ready documents for highway transportation projects. The incumbent will supervise and work alongside four Engineering Assistants be the engineer of record for design work review plan sets and construction submittals and coordinate with other design staff. This position includes mostly office work with occasional trips to project sites sometimes in remote areas by small aircraft.

The Traffic Design group within the Central Region Traffic Safety and Utilities section consists of a seven-member team including a project manager technical engineer traffic design engineer and four engineering assistants. The team works collaboratively to develop designs and recommendations with a specific focus on signing striping signalization and lighting design in support of Highway Design projects and Right of Way inquiries. The incumbent will serve as leader and designer of record providing project-specific designs and recommendations in support of these efforts.

The working environment you can expect:
Our office is located at 4111 Aviation Avenue in Anchorage AK. The work environment is primarily in an open office with cubical style workspaces. Daily work generally consists of reviewing and designing plans for highway projects providing technical support for other functional groups and distributing work to engineering assistants. This work is performed in collaboration with friendly motivated peers and other functional staff while also overseeing four of the sections engineering assistants. Occasional field work is also performed on an as needed basis in support of program projects

Who we are looking for:
We are looking for an individual with the following desired core competencies that will contribute to their success in this position:

  • Transportation Engineering: Knowledge of the concepts principles theories and methods applicable to planning designing and constructing of transportation systems including traffic analysis signal analysis highway capacity pavement design bridge construction planning of transportation projects environmental analysis of transportation facilities and transportation network analysis.
  • Developing Others: Develops the ability of others to perform and contribute to the organization by providing ongoing feedback and by providing opportunities to learn through formal and informal methods.
  • Writing: Recognizes or uses correct English grammar punctuation and spelling; communicates information (for example facts ideas or messages) in a succinct and organized manner; produces written information which may include technical material that is appropriate for the intended audience.

Special Note:
  • Valid Drivers License is preferred but not required.
  • Professional Engineer license in the field of Civil Engineering mandatory.

Engineer/Architect 1
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect.

Note: Positions in this class require professional registration as either an Engineer or an Architect. The employer will designate which professional field is required for each position.

Special Note:
Persons not registered in the State of Alaska must be registered in a state recognized by the State Board of Registration for Architects Engineers and Land Surveyors eligible for comity in accordance with AS 08.48.191(b). Persons employed under this provision must become registered in Alaska within one year of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.

Engineer/Architect 2
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect and one year of professional experience as an Engineer/Architect 1 or Engineering Associate with the State of Alaska or the equivalent.

Special Note:

FLEXIBLY STAFFED

This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the Engineer/Architect 1 or Engineer/Architect 2 level depending on the applicants training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at.If filled at a lower level promotion to the higher level will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.
