Quality Assurance Manager Metal Fabrication PlantPosition Summary
The Quality Assurance Manager leads all plant-level quality initiatives to ensure consistent production of metal fabricated products that meet or exceed customer expectations internal standards and regulatory requirements. This role oversees the quality control team directs continuous improvement initiatives and serves as the primary liaison between operations engineering and customers regarding product quality. A hands-on data-driven leader with strong problem-solving and communication skills will excel in this position.Essential Job Functions- Lead and manage the plants quality assurance team including quality technicians and inspectors.
- Develop implement and maintain quality systems and procedures aligned with ISO 9001:2015 standards.
- Partner with Plant Management Engineering and Production to ensure quality objectives are met across all fabrication and assembly operations.
- Drive root cause analysis corrective/preventive actions and continuous improvement initiatives related to product and process quality.
- Manage the Corrective and Preventive Action Request (CPAR) process ensuring timely follow-up and documentation.
- Oversee Statistical Process Control (SPC) programs and capability studies to monitor and improve process performance.
- Lead internal and external quality audits and ensure compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
- Establish and monitor key quality metrics (scrap rework customer returns first-pass yield etc.) and report trends to leadership.
- Support launch readiness for new fabrication programs including feasibility studies PPAP documentation and validation testing.
- Coordinate customer quality communications manage escalations and serve as the primary contact for quality concerns.
- Develop and deliver training programs to promote quality awareness and technical development among plant personnel.
- Collaborate with suppliers to resolve incoming quality issues and ensure material conformance.
- Support the development and maintenance of Control Plans FMEAs and other APQP documentation.
- Maintain a strong focus on workplace safety product reliability and cost-effective quality improvements
Knowledge & Experience- Bachelors Degree in Engineering Quality or a related technical field required (Masters preferred).
- ASQ Certification (CQE CQM or similar) preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in Quality Assurance within a metal fabrication stamping or welding environment.
- Proven background managing ISO 9001 or TS-16949 systems and customer audits.
- Experience leading teams and developing department-level KPIs and improvement plans.
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing APQP PPAP and 8D problem-solving.
- Proficiency in SPC Control Plans DOE FMEA and root cause analysis tools.
Skills & Competencies- Strong leadership and team development capabilities.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills for both internal teams and customer interactions.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and drive decisions from metrics.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver results in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
