ATTENTION ALASKA RESIDENTS!

The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Central Region Design and Engineering Services is looking for an Engineering Assistant 1/2/3 Flex in our Utilities section to help us Keep Alaska Moving!

Base Salary Information:

Engineering Assistant 1 $32.78/hourly
Engineering Assistant 2 $37.78/hourly
Engineering Assistant 3 $43.19/hourly

What you will be doing:

At the Engineering Assistant 1 level you will perform a variety of professional engineering duties to assist with the utility permit and utility relocation programs. You will evaluate utility permits and recommend modifications or approval to ensure the integrity of the road surface maintain drainage facilities and promote the safety of the traveling public. You will be assigned pavement preservation and other low complexity projects. You will identify and resolve utility conflicts through the development of utility agreements.

At the Engineering Assistant 2/3 level you will work closely with utility companies to deliver utility relocation agreements for DOT&PF projects. You will use the utility relocation agreements to facilitate relocation of utilities during construction working closely with the construction project team. You will be assigned multiple projects of intermediate and high complexity.

All positions will work under the general supervision of a Registered Professional Civil Engineer

The working environment you can expect:
This position resides in the DOT&PF Central Region Headquarters building in Anchorage AK located at 4111 Aviation Ave. This building resides on the shores of Lake Hood and is across from the Ted Stevens International Airport. This office building is generally comprised of cubicle office space and organized by departmental sections and teams including the Traffic Safety and Utilities Section in which this position is to be filled.

Special Note:

A valid Drivers License is required for this position.
Engineer-in-Training (Fundamentals of Engineering) Certification is preferred but not essential.

Engineering Assistant 1

Bachelors degree with a major in engineering architecture or land surveying from a postsecondary institution accredited by ABET.

Or:
A bachelors degree with a major in engineering architecture or land surveying from a postsecondary institution not accredited by ABET.
AND
An Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Land Surveyor-In-Training (LSIT) certificate issued by a state or the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors; or verification of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) examination.

Special Note:
An applicant who will obtain within nine months a bachelors degree from an institution accredited by ABET with a major in engineering architecture or land surveying will qualify to apply. An applicant qualifying under this option may receive a job offer conditional upon completion of the degree requirement within nine months and may begin work AFTER obtaining and showing proof of the required degree.

Engineering-In-Training or Flex Engineering Assistant 1/Engineering Assistant 2 positions will be identified by the employing department.

Engineering Assistant 2
Bachelors degree or the equivalent with a major in engineering architecture or land surveying from an institution accredited by ABET.
AND
One year of entry level engineering architectural or land surveying experience as an Engineering Assistant 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Or:
A bachelors degree with a major in engineering architecture or land surveying from an institution not accredited by ABET.
AND
An Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Land Surveyor-In-Training (LSIT) certificate issued by a state or the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors; or verification of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) examination.
AND
One year of entry level engineering architectural or land surveying experience as an Engineering Assistant 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Or:
Five years of progressively responsible subprofessional engineering experience of which two years was as a Journey level Engineering Technician or Drafting Technician 3 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Substitution:
Graduate study in engineering and/or architecture may be substituted for the required experience as an Engineering Assistant 1. (2 semester/3 quarter hours equal one month of experience).

Special Note:
The employing department will identify Engineering-In-Training (EIT) positions.
Transcripts which indicate the credit hours earned for the specific coursework may be requested at the time of interview or prior.

Engineering Assistant 3
Bachelors degree with a major in engineering architecture or land surveying from an institution accredited by ABET.
AND
Two years of engineering architectural or land surveying experience of which one year was at the working or intermediate trainee level. The specific experience includes such work as an Engineering Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Or:
A bachelors degree with a major in a branch of engineering from an institution not accredited by ABET.
AND
An Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate issued by a state or the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors; or verification of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.
AND
Two years of engineering architectural or land surveying experience of which one year was at the working or intermediate trainee level. The specific experience includes such work as an Engineering Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Substitutions:
Four years of any combination of ABET accredited postsecondary education in engineering architecture or land surveying (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) and/or engineering architectural or land surveying experience may substitute for the required degree.

Graduate study in engineering or architecture may be substituted for the required experience (2 semester/3 quarter hours equal one month).

FLEXIBLY STAFFED
This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the Engineering Assistant 1 2 or 3 level depending on the applicants training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at. If filled at Level 1 promotion to the Level 2 will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.
