Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
TeHerenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is seeking a Pacific Engagement Adviser to support the success of Pacific students. Based in the Office of the Assistant Vice Chancellor Pacific this is a permanent full-time position working alongside a team of Pacific Engagement Advisers.
The key responsibility of the role is to support the academic success of Pacific students through:
- Delivering high quality academic and holistic support programmes aimed at strengthening Pacific success.
- Delivering events that support Pacific student community building.
- Actively engaging with faculty staff to support the academic achievement of Pacific students.
- Applying Pacific cultural practices in the engagement and support work.
Ō pūmanawa - About you
We are looking for a person who is passionate about supporting student success; has excellent communication and relationship-building skills; and has a strong understanding of Pacific cultures values and practices.
Your desire to see our Pacific students succeed coupled with your strong organisational skills and solutions-focused perspective would make you an ideal candidate.
Key requirements:
- A tertiary degree.
- Strong understanding of Pacific cultures values and approaches.
- Knowledge of New Zealands tertiary settings particularly how these relate to Pacific students.
- Ability to build strong working relationships with students as well as academic and professional staff.
- A good understanding of data and evidence-based decision making.
