Job Summary

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Whether you are an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant or a graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in education this role offers a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills and progress in the SEN sector.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support students 1:1 and in small groups across primary secondary or college settings.
  • Work with students with ASD ADHD SEMH and other learning difficulties providing tailored support.
  • Assist teachers in adapting lessons to meet individual needs using PECS Makaton and sensory-based learning.
  • Help students develop confidence independence and social skills through structured interventions.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies and provide emotional support when needed.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers SENCOs and therapists to create a nurturing learning environment.
  • Encourage inclusion and engagement ensuring all students have access to learning opportunities.

Who Were Looking For:

- Graduates in Psychology Education SEN Social Work or related fields looking for hands-on experience.
- Experienced Teaching Assistants Youth Workers or Support Workers with a passion for SEN.
- A patient compassionate and proactive approach to working with children and young people.
- Knowledge or experience of SEN strategies such as PECS Makaton Team Teach or de-escalation techniques (desirable but not essential).
- A willingness to learn and take part in ongoing CPD and training.

Postgraduate qualification or accredited training in SEND (e.g. National Award for SEN Coordination Autism Education Trust dyslexia/SpLD or SEMH specialism).Proficiency in alternative/augmentative communication methodsMakaton PECS AAC using evidence-based interventions such as TEACCH SCERTS or Positive Behaviour in Team-Teach MAPA or similar de-escalation and safe-handling with assistive ed-tech tools and adaptive software
