Summary
This role is pivotal in providing comprehensive advice and support to individuals facing homelessness or housing challenges. The position involves guiding applicants through housing options ensuring they understand their rights and can secure long-term housing solutions. The role requires effective communication with applicants and their representatives making advice accessible and helping to prevent or resolve homelessness.
Responsibilities
- Offer advice on homelessness prevention housing options and tenure rights.
- Communicate with applicants via phone email or letter.
- Progress homeless applications in compliance with legislation and guidance.
- Assess applicants circumstances and develop personalized housing plans.
- Make decisions on duties owed to applicants and notify them within target times.
- Maintain accurate records of applications assessments and outcomes.
- Assist applicants in accessing the private rented sector and financial assistance schemes.
- Collaborate with partner agencies to address various applicant needs.
Requirements
Qualification
- Education to at least A-level standard or equivalent knowledge (NVQ level 4).
- Commitment to continuous professional development and acquiring specialist skills.
Knowledge
- Understanding of homelessness legislation and landlord-tenant law.
- Familiarity with options for those at risk of homelessness.
- Awareness of data protection and equality and diversity issues.
Skills
- Effective written and verbal communication.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships.
- Strong negotiating skills and sensitivity in diverse situations.
- Ability to manage expectations and overcome barriers.
- Time management and workload prioritisation.
- Precision in managing a diverse caseload and maintaining records.
- Teamwork flexibility and initiative.
Experience
- Experience with Locata (Homelessness system).
- Experience in a Housing Options team or similar environment.
- Experience in partnership working and dealing with vulnerable applicants.
Working Conditions
- Hybrid working with potential home visits.
- Occasional evening weekend and on-call duties.
- Enhanced DBS check required.
- Valid driving license and access to a vehicle for client visits.
Required Skills:
