Job Summary

The organization is a full-service commercial electrical contractor specializing in Class A interior build-outs power distribution lighting fire alarm systems and low-voltage technologies. The Purchasing Lead is responsible for executing and overseeing day-to-day procurement operations managing vendor relationships and supporting project teams with timely cost-effective material acquisition.

This role requires a proactive detail-oriented professional who can balance multiple priorities and lead purchasing processes from requisition to delivery.


Position Summary

The Purchasing Lead is accountable for managing sourcing activities negotiating supplier terms and ensuring materials are procured efficiently and in alignment with project schedules. This position provides leadership to the purchasing team and serves as the main liaison between procurement warehouse operations and project management.



Requirements

Procurement & Sourcing

  • Manage daily purchasing activities for electrical lighting fire alarm and low-voltage materials.

  • Identify qualify and maintain relationships with suppliers and manufacturers.

  • Solicit and compare vendor quotes to ensure best value and adherence to specifications.

  • Negotiate pricing payment terms and delivery schedules.

  • Issue and track purchase orders; monitor lead times shortages and back orders.

  • Collaborate with project managers and field supervisors to forecast material needs and resolve delivery challenges.

  • Propose alternate materials or suppliers to meet deadlines or improve cost efficiency.

Team Leadership & Process Improvement

  • Provide direction training and support to purchasing coordinators or assistants.

  • Establish standardized procurement procedures and ensure compliance with approval workflows.

  • Monitor team performance KPIs and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Develop and maintain procurement tracking systems and dashboards.

Cost Management & Analysis

  • Monitor budgets and track procurement costs versus estimates.

  • Conduct cost comparisons market research and supplier performance reviews.

  • Identify cost-saving opportunities through volume purchasing vendor contracts and negotiation.

  • Support estimating and pre construction teams with current pricing and lead-time data.

Cross-Department Coordination

  • Maintain strong communication with operations project management and warehouse teams.

  • Provide regular procurement status reports and identify material risks or delays.

  • Coordinate delivery schedules to ensure alignment with construction timelines.

  • Support project closeouts through reconciliation of purchase orders and vendor billing.

Quality Safety & Compliance

  • Verify incoming materials meet technical and safety standards.

  • Manage vendor performance related to quality accuracy and delivery reliability.

  • Maintain complete procurement records for audit and compliance purposes.

  • Ensure all purchases comply with company standards and applicable codes.


Qualifications & Experience

Required:

  • Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management Business or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • 5 years of purchasing or procurement experience in electrical construction MEP contracting or building systems.

  • Strong knowledge of electrical materials fire alarm components and low-voltage systems.

  • Proven ability to negotiate effectively and maintain supplier relationships.

  • Proficiency in ERP or purchasing software and Microsoft Office tools.

  • Strong organizational analytical and communication skills.

  • Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred:

  • Experience with large commercial or institutional construction projects.

  • Understanding of submittal processes specifications and construction documentation.

  • Familiarity with lean procurement vendor-managed inventory or strategic sourcing programs.

  • Professional certifications such as CPSM CPP or CSCP are a plus.


Working Conditions

  • Primarily office or warehouse environment with periodic visits to job sites or supplier facilities.

  • May require occasional overtime during peak project phases.

  • Use of phones ERP systems and procurement tools daily.

  • Some travel is required for vendor meetings or regional coordination.
