This is a newly created role within the retail division of the organization designed to address the growing challenges associated with Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) claims. The TPD Rehabilitation Counsellor will play a critical role in assessing the employability of claimants who assert they are unable to return to work due to disability. The position is not focused on helping individuals return to work but rather on evaluating the legitimacy of claims through a structured assessment of their education training and experience (ET&E).
This role is central to the organizations strategy to manage unsustainable TPD-related losses and ensure claims are paid appropriately. It is expected to evolve into a foundational position that may lead to future team expansion and potential leadership opportunities within 18 months contingent on the success of the role.
In this role you will:
- Conduct employability assessments for TPD claimants based on their education training and work history
- Evaluate transferable skills and determine realistic alternative employment options using AI-generated work options
- Vet and validate AI-generated vocational options to ensure alignment with claimant capabilities
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders across retail and technical teams to ensure robust assessment processes
- Provide expert input into claim decisions to support sustainable product outcomes
- Maintain high standards of professional judgment and integrity in all assessments
- Participate in interviews and cross-functional discussions as part of the vetting process for claim evaluations
Qualifications :
- Graduate Diploma or Bachelors Degree in Rehabilitation Counselling (non-negotiable)
- Minimum 23 years of experience in rehabilitation counselling with up to 5 years preferred
- Familiarity with TPD insurance and claims processes is highly desirable
- Strong understanding of vocational assessment methodologies and transferable skills analysis
- Ability to work independently while contributing to broader strategic goals
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
